We had the good fortune of connecting with Kira Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kira, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from the upper Eastside of Detroit Michigan. Essentially i was brought up in diverse environment I have family who are highly educated some are traditional “9-5” workers and there is a fair amount of entrepreneurs. Which has given me a 360 perspective from every angle whether it was negative or positive, it led me to a path where i was able to experience a bit of it all and for 4 years i’ve been a professional makeup artist in the Metro Detroit area. I really believe it is a huge deal to be well rounded really ‘Worldy’ i was blessed enough to let it impact me in the most positive way i was able to be the consumer and the producer thats why i am able to connect with my community in such a personal way by just having that kind of outlook on it has led me to go many places and meet amazing people. Detroit is the city of stars there is so much talent and creative energy here there isn’t another city I would want to be from!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It was definitely NOT easy. I’ve faced many obstacles COVID being one of them. My biggest hurdle was just having courage to create without letting things that were in the way hold me back, It pushes me further and sets me apart from the mass. Entrepreneurship already carries weight itself being your own boss comes with so many other job roles while balancing being a mom a friend a daughter a partner i really put my faith in God and he has worked miracles for me. I still have my creative spark and luckily my sanity… while still being able to open doors for myself while building fruitful connections with other creatives. It by far isn’t easy but it’s a healthy balance of trial and tribulation. I want the world and young entrepreneurs in my city and others as long as you have people in your corner who motivate you are rooting for you and speaking life over you its no way you can lose.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s take an entire round trip around my city! Starting off with breakfast/brunch if you have a sweet tooth and a big appetite you’d definitely love The Hudson Cafe The Chunky Monkey is my go-to taking a small side quest to explore all of downtown Detroit’s high life The Detroit institute of arts is absolutely amazing the Tiff Massey exhibit explores in deep artistic depth of black culture black entrepreneurship and entertainment. Shoutout to To Pao best Asian American cuisine & ya’ll definitely have to stop by a local Coney Island.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
