Meet Kira | Pole Instructor & Exotic Dancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kira, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always been an artistic person since I was a child. I began drawing anytime I could, even during class. It branched into me looking for other creative outlets as an adult. I randomly chose to take a pole dancing class as a hobby with my friend and was hooked ever since. I got into it professionally when I began dancing in clubs and showcases.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a dancer, I’m in this weird bubble of being an employee in clubs and studios, as well as having random gigs. I’m very free with my schedule which is a blessing since I deal with body troubles from time to time.
I’ve been dancing for 4 years now. I began dancing in studios, where I learned the basics and quickly fell in love. I wanted to do more with everything I was learning so I decided to work in clubs to be paid for what I enjoyed doing. While in the clubs, I learned more on sensual movement and art of dancing, while simultaneously learning proper techniques in studio classes.
Working in clubs, there are easy days and hard days. I learned quickly that pole dancing doesn’t necessarily get me paid in the club, it’s the art of seduction and selling the fantasy. I would still do my pole tricks because I enjoyed them, but I also learned to break out of my shell and be more outgoing and approachable. I also learned rejection only makes way for new opportunities and improvement.
I gained a sense of community when branching out to my coworkers, friends, fellow students, and instructors to meet up at beaches to have fun and play on the poles. I met so many new people I wouldn’t have crossed paths with through our parties and it built more connections I didn’t know was available to me. They taught me new things, landed me gigs, and showed me the love and support that has communities thrive. I wish to do the same for others and share the love and confidence we all deserve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m very much a homebody when I’m not working so I’m quick to tag along with someone who knows a place or two. I would be a terrible tour guide but my favorite spots are between San Diego and Los Angeles.
I love to eat anything with Mexican cuisine, pasta, or a good brunch. Cheesecake factory is definitely my comfort restaurant but for views any spot with rooftop dining is gorgeous.
The Aquarium of the Pacific is my favorite places to view marine life. I also really love any art museum. LACMA is one of the biggest I’ve been to but smaller galleries are always worth checking out. When it comes to pole studios to take a class or to enjoy an open pole session, my favorites are Vixen Pole Fitness in Murrieta, Secret Pole Dance in Rancho, and SOMA in Los Alamitos.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My community of family and friends have pushed me to be happy and free in whatever I decide to do. Also being apart of Stripper Co-op, an organization ran by (former & current) strippers for strippers working to own our own club, has been such an amazing experience and resource for me.
