Meet Kiran Kanwar | Golf instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiran Kanwar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiran, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The two end- goals have been, for over 15 years, 1) to be the golf instructor to Tiger woods and 2-3 other leading golf professionals of the world and 2) to have the entire world use the golf swing I have developed based on 30 years of research. This latter project via app-based interactive training

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career of teaching golf serendipitously began when an Aunt said she’d like to learn golf so I said I’ll give you your first lesson even though I was just a golfer, not a teacher! And that’s how my long-lasting passion to become a better and better golf teacher and only disseminate information that I had researched, began. I’m most proud of being the only person in the world teaching a 100% based-in-science golf swing, of getting my PhD in some of the toughest subjects at age 63 and my Ladies Professional Golf Association Master professional thesis on causes of golf injury.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends are mostly golfers so a round of golf in Los Angeles would be a must. This could be accompanied by a few meals out and, if there interested, some shopping that I would suffer silently through. As I’m not much into these latter activities, some restaurant reviews would be required. For me, exciting people are those with great wit in conversation and places are those that have scenic beauty or historical interest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Two women – my Mom who always prayed for my golf success, leading me to winning me the national golf championship in India; my friend Dr Rohini Chowgule who has been both a golf student since I began my golf coaching career 35 years ago, and a phenomenal mentor. Two men – my husband and my son who between them were probably in shock when I wanted to get back into being a student at age 55 to do an MA and PhD degrees but paid my college bills through 8.5 years of academia.
