We had the good fortune of connecting with Kody Desmond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kody, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor that has helped me to the success I have achieved now is not having some of my friends and family believe in me, I am the first person in my whole generation of family to take a non conventional way of work that didn’t include working in a office or working 9-5 everyday of the week. Hearing my family and friends tell me that it won’t workout I won’t make money I should go to college and work in the trades like most of my family helped push me harder to prove them all wrong and show that it might be different from most in the career path but I’m going to succeed in it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a social media content creator and I have been doing this as a full time job for a little under 2 years now. I got into this industry because I started to gain a following during the middle of quarantine, when everyone was at home and had nothing better to do than to scroll on Tik Tok and other socials. On my socials, I promote LGBTQ+ advocacy and male hygiene / beauty tips. I found a niche in my content that eventually allowed me to grow my accounts and created the ability for me to do this full time. At times, it’s great. However, it is a rough job at other parents. My parents, especially my mom, was not on board with the idea of social media. It was hard to go against my mother’s wishes and pursue what I really wanted to do. A lot of people my age seek validation from their parents and that is something I lived without, which made it that much harder to pursue what I wanted to do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they have never been to California, I would definitely take them to the West Hollywood area. Firstly, I love the gay bars there. Everyone is so friend and kind. It is one of the most accepting gay communities I have experienced in my life thus far. In terms of food, we would definitely hit some of my favorite spots: Dialog Cafe, Laurel Hardware, and In-n-Out (everyone needs to try this at least once). As for me, I love to go thrifting. I find 90% of my clothing and jewelry on the Melrose Avenue Strip. If my bestie happens to be in town on a Sunday, we would definitely hit the Melrose Trading Post as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people I would have to shout of are my social media managers who have helped me manage and help develop my following into a successful stream of income for me
