We had the good fortune of connecting with Kofie Yeboah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kofie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance has always been pretty good. As a content creator I kind of have a lot of ideas in my brain constantly stirring around, If you think about it. Anything can be content. I have made an effort to actively not turn my entire life into content because then I would feel like I’m not present in the present. However I am getting more comfortable with making more styles of content. I used to dread recording or filming content in public, but now that I’m getting more reps I’m loving the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
How did you get to where you are today professionally.

I started out as a wanna be broadcast journalist, but midway through college realized that there weren’t many jobs in that field that would truly speak to me and decided to pivot to social media. It started out making funny tweets and everything but then I make my YouTube channel and started trying out making videos in the content world about 6 years ago

Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

It’s never easy I don’t think. I think a lot of the stuff that is difficult with content doesn’t have to do with making content. It’s the competition. It’s the algorithm. It’s posting stuff to 8 different platforms and a video doing well on 2 platforms and not the other 6. There’s a lot of uncertainty that resides in content creator that’s for sure. I think I overcome it by trying to just not be a perfectionist and move on to the next thing as soon as I’m done creating. If it’s something I like, I just gotta trust in my abilities and that people will like it as well.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am just a kid from North Carolina that grew up VCR-ing sporting events when they were on TV because we didn’t have cable. I turned my passion for sports and video games into my entire career. If you lock in it’s all possible. I’ve also learned that growth isn’t linear. You can make content at any age. You don’t have to retire. Youtube is only a decade plus old. If you start now imagine where you’ll be 30-40 years from now. The only way you don’t get to where you want is if you stay still.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love when they have free jazz at LACMA.

I also just love to find new sports and karaoke bars in the city. The beauty of Los Angeles is that there is so much to do and so much that I haven’t even explored yet. I don’t have a real itinerary per se honestly. My friends run a fun comedy show called High Note Comedy out west so that’s a definite must.

Also line dancing at Desert 5 is a great time. I never thought I’d be a good line dancer but it’s a great time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that I could credit, as to how I got here. I think all the people that believed in me especially deserve a shoutout for sure. I would honestly say the entire team at Secret Base keeps me going professionally. It’s so cool and fun to work in an environment where we are all trying to make the coolest sports content out on the internet. I’ve been working at SB Nation/Secret Base for 7 years and I’ve loved all 7 years of it.
