We had the good fortune of connecting with Kosta Galanopoulos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kosta, why did you pursue a creative career?
I knew early on that I dug the feeling of music and being able to create. It’s always been in my blood. Once you have that itch.. it never goes away. To be able to make others feel that emotion too.. that’s some heavy stuff. It’s a feeling.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the current, I have my first solo record coming out in June on Acrophase records. It’s wild releasing something of your own into the world, especially coming from more of a player background. Exciting getting it all reeled into one universe. In the short version… I started gigging when I was 12 around the Space Coast of Florida where I’m from. I moved to NYC when I was 18 to go to college, then ended up moving out to LA to dive deeper in the studio scene because it’s something I’ve always been into. Making records to me is such an open canvas to paint away. The past few years in LA have been such a beautiful journey. Very blessed for the art that’s been made and what’s to come.
Has it been easy? … No.. but it sure has been fun and rewarding soulfully.
What I’ve set out to do is make timeless art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Pretend the global pandemic didn’t exist… I’d take them down to Hermosa Beach and cruise around. Go hang in Highland Park around York or Fig. There’s plenty of vintage shops in the city I dig.. Jet Rag is one. Funky as it is… Long Beach also has a vibe. I’d take them to catch Jay Bellerose play down at ETA. Cha-Cha Chicken down in Santa Monica too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Friends and family that have been supportive along the never ending journey and my mentor figures that have guided me.
