We had the good fortune of connecting with Krickett Jones Halpern and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krickett, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One unique aspect of our SEL Drum program is its focus on nurturing emotional intelligence, brain development, and self-awareness from an incredibly early age. We believe that the foundational years, from 0 to 5, are critical for setting the stage for lifelong learning and well-being. Our program leverages the universal language of music through drumming to engage children deeply, fostering essential skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Drum to LEARN is a unique program that uses drumming to teach social-emotional learning (SEL), emotional intelligence, and brain development to young children. Unlike traditional music programs, we focus on fostering listening, attention, and self-awareness through interactive drumming sessions. I’m proud of creating a space where children can grow emotionally and cognitively. The journey wasn’t easy, but embracing creativity and persistence helped overcome challenges. The key lesson I’ve learned is the importance of adapting to each child’s needs and maintaining a growth mindset. Our story is about empowering children to be self-aware and to understand and express their emotions through the joy of drumming.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the beach to teach them a cartwheel and make a marble run! Share my favorite place to eat is Sharkey’s Mexican Grill. I love their grilled veg.’s, rice, and their salmon plate.
Take a 15 minute train ride at Griffith Park.
Go to UCLA to see their Sculpture garden
