Meet Krickit Hodges | Strength Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krickit Hodges and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krickit, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Oh man. I think 10 years ago my arrogance was just driving me to build a space where I answered to no one. The thing about owning a small business… you answer to so many humans LOL.
Back then I knew I wanted a space to call my own. I knew I wanted to build community. I also knew being a career trainer is very difficult, so I wanted to learn how to set myself and my colleges up for success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As of late I am most proud of my ability to learn, and take ownership of my behavior. I have made many mistakes through out the years, and I am happy I can grow from them.
I am extremely excited to reach out to some neighboring gyms this year. I wish the fitness industry would come together more often, and utilize one another’s resources.
Owning a business is NEVER easy. Again, I think if you are going to be a business owner long term you have to lean into your mistakes, and be willing to accept feedback.
After 6 years of owning my studio, and at the tip top of my career I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I knew my in order to heal I needed to listen to my body, and dial way back on stress. This was a very difficult journey. Not difficult like I was used to like running a PR or competing. It was almost learning how to slow down, say no, and ask for help. I know this part of my experience as a business owner has made me a better coach, friend, CEO, and just a better human.
This chapter helped me define my brand. Fitness can feel like you are choosing your religion at times. I used to be so dogmatic in my approach. My space is for empowering, getting stronger, pushing limits, and all that shit, but it’s also a space for just showing up, laughter, compassion, compromise, and knowing it will never be perfect.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we gotta workout. We are going to go to step aerobics at the gym. Then, we have to hit up Sweet Salt for breakfast and coffee. Lou’s the French on the block for that pastry we just earned. If I need to hit a market TJs off Riverside is my spot. Finally, I want an old fashioned and good vibes at Foreman’s.
La is my home. We will hike, have amazing bites, there’s a gym on every corner, pet a dog, and meet incredible artists any where we go!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1000%
So many people have helped me along the way. Kim and Erwin Mcmanus believed in me early on in my career, and pushed me to be better. All of my colleagues at 24 Hour Fitness inspired me, and took me under their wings. My husband assured me anytime I doubted myself that I was right where I was suppose to be. Every client I have ever trained has taught me something along the journey…if I choose to accept the lesson.
