We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is to trust myself. It can be extremely easy to get wrapped up in what everyone is doing, especially with how much the world revolves around social media. You’re constantly watching other creatives and their process and without realizing it, you’ve stopped doing what got you to where you are in the first place. I’ve found it to be much more rewarding when I’ve stuck to my own process and when I’ve moved at my own pace.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main focus in my career has always been to tell a story through my images. I firmly believe that all photographers are storytellers in their own way and I feel extremely honored that people have been able to relate to my images. However it hasn’t been an easy road. Photography is an extremely competitive field and you really have to grind in order to make it a career. I spent countless hours researching tricks and tips on how to shoot and after a while i was able to adopt my own style. My favorite project to date was photographing a USC Football game. Anyone that knows me knows how big of USC fans my father and I are. So being invited to photograph Heisman winner Caleb Williams’ last game in the Coliseum was not only an amazing experience but also an extremely proud moment. I think that the biggest lesson that I have learned throughout my career is to showcase what you’re most proud of. It can be really easy to get wrapped up in what everyone else is doing, but as long as you’re proud of your work in the end thats all that matters.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to my hometown of Long Beach. We would start off getting breakfast at Alder and Sage over on 4th and Cherry. After we could also spend a lot of time grabbing food and drinks over in Belmont Shore! And to top it off maybe we go photograph the scenery over on the cliffs of Palos Verdes. The Korean Bell is one of my favorite locations to walk and hang out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Waraire Boswell. A fashion designer from Los Angeles California who I call an uncle. He’s been an incredible guide and support system through the past few years of my career. He’s also one of the most talented and positive individuals I have ever met!
