Meet Krisette Kho | Buhay Collective

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krisette Kho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krisette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
What began as a simple scrub donation during the COVID-19 pandemic quickly evolved into a small mask-making business. That experience sparked a bigger idea: why not create a scrubwear line?
As a healthcare professional with over 10 years of experience wearing scrubs daily, I knew firsthand the importance of comfort and function on the job. While sewing masks, I started thinking about how scrubs could be improved. I’ve always been particular about the brands I wore, constantly noticing what worked and what didn’t.
That’s when it clicked. Why not design scrubs that move with you throughout the day, offering both flexibility and the polished, classic look of a uniform?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always had a passion for helping others and giving back, which is one of the reasons I chose a career in healthcare, specifically, Occupational Therapy. Each day brings its own challenges, but knowing I play a role in helping people rehabilitate gives me a deep sense of purpose.
Building this brand has added another layer to that mission. Even in a small way, it’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our products can help healthcare workers feel more comfortable throughout their day. It’s one less thing to worry about during a busy shift.
One of the most beautiful things about Buhay is that its foundation began with a give-back initiative called Project Buhay, where we donated scrubs to underprivileged facilities and those in need during the pandemic. From the beginning, Buhay has been a brand rooted in giving back, with the hope that it will one day grow into a larger movement of support and generosity.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dedicated to the beautiful Buhay community, whose continued support has meant everything throughout this journey. Whether it’s wearing the scrubs or merch, showing up at pop-up events, or representing the brand in other ways, I am forever grateful.
