We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Fewel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, how does your business help the community?
I initially learned yoga as a set of survival skills. At a fairly young age, imbalanced relationships and disconnection with my body led to health problems the medical world didn’t know how to fix. I knew from a young age that I wanted to help people, and learning yoga – along with other holistic health and energywork practices – was a set of skills that I needed for self-discovery and to heal myself. This eventually led to my first yoga teacher training program and I was asked by my teacher to begin teaching at their studio right away. I now feel that practicing yoga is an act of compassion toward oneself, but teaching yoga is an act of compassion toward humanity.

After twenty five years teaching thousands of students, I know that each person has within them the ability to share what they’ve learned. Many of my students are mental health professionals, caregivers, and classroom teachers who go on to teach their own clients and students. Others are parents who practice with their own children, passing on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits to them. This is a ripple effect which extends out to my community and beyond to thousands of households, churches, temples, wellness centers, and community groups all over the world for a long time to come.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My husband and I opened Full Circle Yoga & Healing Arts in 2010 to fill a gap in holistic services in the north Orange County, CA area where we live. We opened our first studio in Yorba Linda within minutes of our home with the intention of having a lighter footprint, and to grow slowly. Four years later we moved to our current location even closer to our home. Although we primarily attract people from the Yorba Linda/north OC area, my clients regularly come from much farther distances to work with me.

Full Circle Yoga & Healing Arts is where I teach 1:1, small group classes and workshops, and facilitate healing sessions. Many people come to me because they have an injury or condition that would make a “big box” yoga studio unreasonable or unsafe for them. Often they present with a physical issue that has manifested into emotional, mental, or spiritual issues that can be very complex and beyond the scope of practice of most yoga teachers. I am different from other teachers because I am an empath with a strong healing arts background including anatomy and physiology. I use yoga therapy tools and energywork to help the individual find ease, comfort, stability, and clarity with often amazing results. When my clients return to me after they have gone a ways into their healing journey and want to learn HOW they healed is what I joyfully call a “full circle moment.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Imagining a week-long driving trip, I would take a friend to the desert for a spa experience. I would rent my friend’s mini-home for a couple of days in Desert Hot Springs and take the waters in the mineral hot springs. On the way, I would stop at Hadley’s for a plant-based date shake, which is a long sip of heaven. Of course we would hike a little and do yoga in the morning and enjoy fresh fruits and salads in the afternoon. Then I would take them out to Las Vegas and stay at Tahiti Village, a non-casino resort, for massages, facials, and hang out pool-side for a couple of days to watch the palm trees sway. On our drive home, we would stop at my favorite ramen shop. Our family loves plant-based dining and one of our favorite places to eat is Huntington Ramen in Fullerton, CA. It’s the best vegan sushi in our area and the service is top-notch.
