We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristien Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristien, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My pop has always told me to take “calculated risk” and that has been the difference in me having a career and not. Fear is never allowed to hold me back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started taking music serious in 2009 when I began learning how to formulate a song with a couple friends. I was always around music from a young age but once I started to learn the fundamentals of song making I fell in love with the art. What separates me from everyone else is the fact I’m not afraid to be myself and I’m unapologetic about it. That freedom allows my creativity to never be hindered which in the end, usually results in relatable content. It took years of trial and error but I believe that’s why when people start discovering me I sound more like a finished and polished product than a lot of my peers. It wasn’t easy at all but I stayed the course because I was certain that this was what I wanted to do. I knew my career of choice was music. My brand represents hard work and dedication and the results of it. My brand represents self love and positivity. People will be inspired by my story and leadership to be the best versions of themselves possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So it wouldn’t be California if I didn’t take you to get some bomb and authentic Mexican food. Taqueria on 4th st is definitely the move for that. The foods in Long Beach are A++ . I might even cook you a lil something 😂. We’re definitely gonna hit the beach, staying out the water but we there for looks. Signal hill for the scenic views most definitely. Give you a view of Long Beach from the top of the city. Then we’d hit all the landmarks where I grew up. From the east side to the North. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
