We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Mothersbaugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking is essential to growth. Change is inevitable, but growth is optional. Yes, taking risks can be uncomfortable. Many people stay frozen and not wanting to take any risks because of uncomfortability. However, it is worth it to move through uncomfortability when looking back I believe, and brings you to a life of greater joy and peace. The bravery gained through facing uncomfortability really does pay off in the long run. There are different kinds of risks, and there is a benefit of learning more and growing wiser each time you take one so you can’t really go wrong in the big picture of things, but I think it is important to check in beforehand in order to not create unnecessary hardship for yourself as much as possible – are you taking this risk our of fear or love? If out of fear, it is most likely taking you on a detour of hardship so you can heal and learn more. If out of love, it is most likely going to be a path to greater ease, fulfillment, and contentment of aligning more with your purposes in life. The good news is, you can always choose to consciously take a risk out of love for something instead of out of fear against something.

In my acting, spiritual businesses, and filmmaking careers, taking risks has been something I always innately knew I had to do to get any form of success, so I was willing to make a fool out myself and risking failure doing so. I mean, I moved half-way across the country after college with hardly any money and no industry connections to chase a dream that most people think is impossible, as well as doing spiritual work which most people think of as very unrealistic to pay your bills with and some think is complete bullshit and not real, and making films which many people think is ridiculous to do. I pushed though my insecurities and decided to divinely trust and take many risks, living a bit boldly in my belief in myself, wanting to inspire others to do the same. Many times, it has worked out in my favor, but I also see now when I look back that I took a lot of risks in a sort of blind faith and denial of reality; living more in a delusional escapism. Even though in my head I was sure to be a success eventually with as many risks as I took, I had a lot of unconscious pain to heal and because of that, tended to work and effort very hard to prove my worth with each risk I took out of fear, and many times the end result didn’t work out well in my favor. This approach has served me in a beneficial way though; it has helped me to truly see optimistic paths, possible solutions, and love and believe in myself despite others not supporting me, and not letting fear ever stop me, even though the older I get, the more it feels the pressure is on to be more worldly successful. However, now I have learned to have a healthier balance to face and accept the reality in front of me while still having my faith in my dreams, and knowing I never need to prove myself through efforting. Now, I tend to align with timelines that are filled with more ease, more fun, and more safety. I feel divinely inspired to take a little action when the opportunity for risk-taking turns up, and it works out well for me without struggle or stress. I magnetize the kinds of risks I want to take. I believe it is important to creatively always be on the edge of the unknown in the kinds of work that I do, and being willing to take risks is an important part of that that I will never stop doing.

Two of the main things I have learned about taking risks that may help readers of this article:

1. Work backwards when goal setting. This brings clarity on the kinds of risks to take, and helps you to confidently take the smaller action steps that are what dreams coming true are made of.

2. Trust your intuition enough to follow it. Know that the Universe/God/Source/Creator/Your Higher Self/Your Spirit Guide Team are always talking to you through literally everything and giving you signs to help you. Tuning in to listen to these subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle messages really does work to benefit you in the long run. In order to understand your intuition, you may need to heal and clear some resistant energy first which may also be uncomfortable, but know that it is worth it, and you will soon be able to know when it is your intuition telling you something as opposed to something else. Your intuition is always leading you to align with your highest vibrational path of least resistance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a multi-passionate person who loves to creatively combine my passions. I am an actor that continually pursues acting success in other people’s projects, as well as creating my own acting opportunities for myself. I am a spiritual business owner of 2 online spiritual businesses: Cherry Blossom Spirituality and The Elven Temple. The work I do with these is something I divinely felt called to do and it has naturally grown into these professions. Lastly, I am also a filmmaker and video content creator. I have my own production company Adventurine Entertainment, and also co-create with 3 Corner’s Productions, as well as others. I have a podcast if you want to check it out as well called Awakening Film and TV Podcast.

In my acting career as of late, I have recently attained some really wonderful representation and am updating my casting materials, excited for the opportunities in store now that I have had an upleveling to finally be able to get into the doors of the industry and audition for bigger projects.

For my spiritual businesses, I am growing video content and am writing a book, and also offer in-person psychic readings and healings at Lady of the Lake in Temecula, CA.

And in my filmmaking news, it’s been amazing having Adventurine Entertainment’s “Passage” and 3 Corner’s Productions’ “Sewn” & “The Bargain” winning so many indie film festival awards! Writing is commencing on future projects.

My brand of being mysterious, adventurous, and otherworldly roles in the genres of fantasy and sci-fi in my acting career extends out into my other careers as well. I am that spiritual and fantastic business owner and filmmaker that believes magick is real, and can help you to believe too. I want to inspire, assist, and support others that resonate with me in all I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is a beautiful city in many ways, though the intense traffic, crazy parking, and the difficulty in finding a working restroom open to the public are some of the frustrating things about it. What I love about Los Angeles is the cultural variety and the “can-do” attitude of so many of the people that live and work in and around the city.

I think visiting the beach is always nice for a minute and also recommend hiking to the iconic Hollywood sign. Los Angeles has a lot of vegan food options which, as a vegan, I find very exciting. I particularly enjoy Beelman’s, Arya’s Place, Samosa House, The Grain Cafe, and the Vegan Street Fair. Other cool things are The Last Bookstore, the La Brea Tar Pits, the Griffith Observatory, farmer’s markets, music shows, dance shows, art shows, comedy shows, and studio tours. There are some spiritual shops and hot yoga studios that I think are fun too. There are always events taking place all over the city you can find online. There are plenty of bars and clubs, and one of the most fun I have been to is Good Times at Davey Wayne’s. One of my absolute favorite places I would go to have a bite to eat, chill, and write before improv classes a few years ago is a gem called the Rumi Cafe. One of the other places I would love to go to reflect is the Echo Park Lake.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have Shoutouts of gratitude to so many people along my journey! THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH. You have helped me more than you know and I am eternally thankful. Please know everyone I have connected with I am grateful for. I have had so many teachers as well that have valuably helped me grow and it would be such a long list. Below are just a few main categories listed in no particular order.
