We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristina Babayan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own speech and language practice to make therapy more accessible and create a supportive, safe space for families. My goal is to provide high-quality care with no long wait times or complicated processes. I believe therapy should be fun and engaging, so I tailor each session to the child’s interests and personality. By running my own practice, I’ve been able to offer flexible, personalized therapy that allows me to try new approaches and ensure each child receives the right care. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see my clients not only make progress but enjoy the process along the way!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Speech Care Co. was created to offer speech and language therapy that’s both accessible and truly supportive for children and their families. What sets us apart is our commitment to building real connections with each child, taking a holistic, connection-centered approach that makes therapy not only effective but enjoyable. I didn’t want my business to feel too “businessy”. I wanted it to feel like a comforting, safe space where families could relax and know that their child’s needs were being met with genuine care. Creating a sustaining business was challenge, but the real focus has always been on providing high-quality care, ensuring every individual feels supported and understood. There were moments of doubt, but with the support of mentors, my family, and my own determination, I overcame those obstacles. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of staying true to my values, balancing the demands of running a business while keeping the quality of care at the forefront. I want the world to know that Speech Care Co. is more than just a speech therapy clinic—it’s a place where every family feels heard and empowered in helping their child reach their full potential.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Burbank, CA, I’d show them all the things that make this city so unique and special to me. I grew up here, went to school here, and even got married here, so this place holds a lot of personal meaning. We’d start by exploring the charming Magnolia Park area, with its quirky shops, vintage stores, and cozy cafes—this is where I’ve spent so many weekends growing up. Since Burbank is home to Warner Brothers and Walt Disney Studios, a must-do would be the Friends experience at the Warner Bros. Studio, where we could take a tour of the iconic set and relive some of the most memorable moments from the show. After the tour, we’d head to one of Burbank’s beautiful parks for a hike, like Wildwood Canyon Park, where we could take in stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains. On weekends, we’d definitely check out the Burbank Town Center, which hosts fun events like farmers’ markets, local craft fairs, and live music performances. What I love most about Burbank is how it mixes its rich film history with that cozy, small-town atmosphere. It’s a place that’s always felt like home to me. Growing up here, I’ve always appreciated how close-knit this community feels, and it’s something I’m so proud to share with anyone who visits.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the incredible people who have supported me along the way. First and foremost, to my high school sweetheart and husband—his love and encouragement have made me stronger and more confident in myself. To my parents and sister, who’ve always shown me love and been there to lift me up, offering guidance and a shoulder to lean on when things got tough. I also want to thank my friends and extended family, who have always cheered me on and believed in my vision.

A huge shoutout to the mentors who guided me throughout my graduate school journey and continue to inspire me today. I’m forever grateful to the professors, supervisors, and colleagues who told me I could one day have my own practice. Without this strong network of support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m truly thankful for each of them helping me turn my dream into a reality!
