We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Collier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Ks and at a very young age I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion/creative space. From reading fashion magazines to watching movies I always said when I was older, I was moving to California. Seeing my dad be a business owner himself always inspired me to do the same. When I graduated college, I moved to Texas to pursue styling and lived there for five years working as a freelancer. I worked with countless creatives and studios. I succeeded, failed, but learned more than I could have imagined. During the pandemic, I moved my things down to California and have been loving every single moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At the beginning of my career, I did lots of assisting and working for free. Yes, working for free! I said yes to just about everything to get paid jobs, connections, and of course reach my goals. It will pay off, but you must have a plan and the bigger picture in mind. It was not easy. I was faced with countless challenges and some of them I did not know how to overcome until I just simply failed and then that’s how I learned. I learned it’s okay to fail sometimes. Just learn from your mistakes and do the job correctly. Learn how to adapt quickly and be highly organized. Throughout my career I learned how important these skills were and most importantly, patience and communication. Starting out I worked mostly in fashion and was shortly introduced to props, and that’s where things slightly changed for me. After a few years of experience, I was getting bigger jobs and producing smaller scale shoots. Boy, I learned a ton from producing! Seeing the other side of things can really teach you. In 2021, I moved to California and gradually began networking more in the commercial and film space and began working with companies I never dreamed of. I am constantly growing, learning and expanding working in wardrobe, props, set design, coordinating/producing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a good question. There is so much to do in LA and endless options, but if my best friend came to LA I would start by showing her these places.

Openaire – One of my favorite brunch spots! Good food and the views are great too.

The Broad – So many amazing art museums to choose from and you can’t go wrong, but this place is at the top of my list.

Getty Villa in Malibu – The views and the art from ancient Greece & Rome are indescribable. Anyone will fall in love with this place.

Nobu Malibu – Views are some of the bests in LA and the sushi is spectacular. It is a great place for any girl’s night out!

El Matador Beach Malibu – Relax, catch the sunset and enjoy the view.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As I look way back at the beginning of my career, I can see so many. My parents for one supported me financially and mentally. I could not have done it without them. Supported me through college and starting my career and I am so grateful for both of them for believing in me. I started my career in Dallas with little to no experience and so many individuals gave me that one shot I needed to help push me forward. My first agency, all the studios, every single creative I crossed paths with was all an experience and little did I know, just the beginning. I want to also thank all my clients, every production house, my agency, creative, that I have worked with in California. It has all been so rewarding and an amazing journey.
