We had the good fortune of connecting with Ksenia Plastinina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ksenia, what do you attribute your success to?
“I can’t go back” mentality. I was born and raised in Russia. I moved to United States by myself with no family of friends at the age of 20. My parents are pretty conservative. They always wanted me to go “the safe” route: go to college, get a degree, get a regular job, get married, have kids etc etc. But I always felt like Im not where I suppose to be. I always had big ambitions, I would set bigger goals and have bigger dreams. So after I moved here, my parents were not too happy about it. They wanted me to come back home and I knew that if stopped working out here, I can always go back home to Russia. But that was the least thing I wanted to do. I think that gave me the biggest drive in my life. I remember always thinking: “No matter what I do, I can’t go back home. I can’t fail”. This literally gave me no choice, but to succeed. Failure is not an option. I need to learn as much as I can, I need to try as hard as I can, find ways to get what I need in order to succeed. I cannot fail.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Right now I own The Major recording Studio that is located in Chicago. We opened the studio 3 years ago. We record the majority of Chicago singers and rappers. Last year we expanded and opened B room. I also created Genres series on IG. We shoot in-studio performances for our clients which allows us to display our work as well as our client’s music. We are planning to expand and add more to the series this year. I also just released my first ever album which is a collaboration of the best Chicago singers and rappers. I don’t sing or rap on the project myself. I executive produced, recorded, mixed and mastered the album. You can find it on all streaming services as KSound – Wild Rose

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we are talking about LA, I would definitely take them to Firestone bar! I had a lot of fun there and their loaded fries is awesome! Definitely would take them to some viewpoints! Also Adults Only is one of the cool spots I’ve been to in LA! Would definitely show them my favorite recording studio in LA – Mix recording studio!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Alex Cruz, the head engineer of The JungleAE Recording studio in Chicago. He gave me a chance even though I had no experience and didn’t know a single thing about Audio engineering. He hired me as an intern 7 years ago at his studio and taught me a lot about engineering music.
