We had the good fortune of connecting with Kwesi Mance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kwesi, how do you think about risk?
I think that risk is just whats required of you to be able to get what you want in life. Nobody has gotten anywhere they wanted to be without risking something. Also, I believe risk is something you cant avoid weather its sacrificing stability to pursue your dreams or sacrificing your dreams to maintain stability. Taking risks have played a huge role in my life because decided to invest time and money into building skills for a career path that isn’t guaranteed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sketch comedy is what I’m most passionate about because you have to establish rules and tell an enjoyable story in such a short period of time. Im most proud of my ability to bring people joy. I believe that laughter is such a unique expression that can change your mood or even heal in some cases. I think what separates me from others in my ability to bring a unique perspective and force people to think about their everyday situations in a different way.

I got to where I am today professionally by just having a willingness to learn and try new things. At first it definitely wasn’t easy because whenever you first try to learn anything you suck at it, Im mean you suck really badly! I overcame these challenges by just constantly trying to improve and just being patient with myself knowing that every year i would make significant progress if I just stay the course.

Lessons I learned along the way would be:
1. the only failure in life is dying with regret
2. Surround yourself with likeminded people, they will be really helpful during your most challenging times.

I want people to know that if they follow their passions they can find a sense of fulfillment that makes life worth living.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting the area I would start by taking them to eat at either “Elong dumplings” in Thousand Oaks or “Din Tai Fung” in Glendale. After that we would do a fun activity like an arcade or paintball only to be followed up by a nice massage to relax our sore muscles. At night we would go to a rooftop bar in downtown LA for drinks and a nice view of the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a lot of my success to Jordan Peele and his recommendation of a. book titled ” The Truth in Comedy. ” This book has helped me learn how to identify what’s funny by being honest and truthful with my ideas. Also, watching Jordan perform at a high level has simply been a source of inspiration for me.
