We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Valentine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, the initial spark to start this band didn’t take much thinking. My brother and I are both driven by our innate desire to create, so it was as simple as wanting to make music that we loved and wanting to share it with others in the hopes that it would do for them as much as it does for us.

However, beyond that initial push was a lot of brain power, concepting, and experimenting to bring the band and brand to what it is today. And we, at this point, don’t think we’ve reached that fully-formed version of our vision. But it’s on the horizon, even closer actually. And it’s thrilling. It’s arriving as we speak.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For better or for worse, we’ve always strived to be unique, and a foundational belief of the band has always been that we need to make music that no one has ever heard before. One of the most obvious differences is Kody’s voice, which harkens to some combination of Alex Turner, Johnny Cash, and Jim Morrison, and that gives us a leg up on the competition.

Being in a band is never really that easy. Putting your heart on the line and feeling rejected over and over, while trying to claw inch by inch through the music industry is not exactly a walk in the park, but it’s worth it. To just embrace the joy of getting to work on art every day is a gift in itself. We are entitled to our labor, not the fruits of our labor.

Recently, we’ve re-motivated ourselves by boiling down what we’re doing to more concrete, attainable goals that give us a clear vision of where we’re going and what we’re doing on the day-to-day. I believe having that WHY crystal clear and in your face is essential for any entrepreneur trying to build something from the ground up. Not only does it keep you hyper-focused, but it steadies the ship when the seas get rocky.

We want the world to know that we’re here for the long haul and to be on the lookout. We’re releasing our first self-produced single soon and have an incredible EP in the works that will be recorded later this year with a world-class producer and artist at the helm. There’s been a transformation behind the scenes for us, and I, for one, cannot wait for the world to see and hear the metamorphosis that has taken place.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not the best planner, if I’m going to be honest, and we’re also fairly new to the city. We arrived two years ago. That said, I’d say hiking up to Griffith Observatory, going to Cinespia, seeing a show at The Hollywood Bowl or the Greek Theatre, eating at Pijja Palace or Santo, and grabbing a drink at Bar Flores or the Thirsty Crow are all first things that come to mind.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out everyone and everything. We are a composite of all of our lived experience. We are a snow-globe showcasing this moment’s reflection of everyone and every moment that has ever inspired us, hurt us, or even just passed through us. Specifically though, we’d love to shout out our fans, friends, and family that has supported us every step of the way. Each affirmation, each positive thought, and every time we’ve felt that our music has helped, inspired, or moved someone else has kept us going. It’s easy to overlook how special that truly is, and it’s moments like this where you pause that you can really appreciate how important that connection is via music.
