We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyza Williamson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyza, what matters most to you?

My most valuable principle is Integrity. In the age of social networking, it can be such a temptation to try to gain whatever your lacking in your business through those avenues.  I decided early in my career I have the most peace when I hold my professional self as high regard as my personal self. So that means no shortcuts and letting your work stand for itself. And let me just say this, it always will stand for itself, the work that is! 

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My art comes in many forms, however specializing in more technical projects seem to inspire me lately. Blonde in any and all forms will always be my first love.

I do have this genetic trait that’s pretty awesome. I am a Tetrachromat. This is when a person can see four cones of light processed through the lens of the eye. I would say this has served me well in all things color related and given me an edge to being a colorist due to the fourth dimensionality. 

The answer is very simple to success. Grit. I am southern raised, so I have to give credit where credit is due. Success is never easy, you just have to decide what is your version of it and how can you prioritize it.

I have a motto and use it in every facet of life. “Its not the problem, its your attitude about the problem”. I wish I knew who to plug for it, I remember seeing it in my grandparents garage as a teenager.

My biggest lesson has been quality over quantity. It’s easy to see 2-3 clients in a day as a “Good” colorist.  Why not go above and behind with white glove service and target each problem every single time? That is great service. Let me tell you it’s not easy, but it’s worth it to me. In the nature of my career, relationships I have built over the years are the most important investment.

The most amazing thing I believe about Kyza Mychelle has been watching the brand be able to accept all versions of a persons (hair) situation. The journey is a beautiful thing to be apart of. It has been grits and glamour. Kyza Mychelle is always evolving but with the foundation of Integrity, I am excited to see where we are going!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

ohhh fun! I would take them to Urthe Caffe’ and get coffee and the breakfast pizza. Make sure to get the sage butter. Then I would take them to Descanso Gardens to take in the botanical gardens. Downtown is always a vibe with any rooftop you can’t go wrong. If your on the west side hit up the whaler.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I have to completely transparent and say my family at State Beauty Supply. I started my career working there and I couldn’t have asked for a better support system. Robin Mathis along with other amazing women definitely turned my fire and drive towards better educating myself. Along with the people I have met In my career, Alixandria Taylor, Kina Walker, and Nicole Armijo, Judy Coodington, to name a few.
