We had the good fortune of connecting with LaChelle Chrysanne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaChelle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are extremely liberating. They take you out of your comfort zone and force you to believe in your ability to come out on the other side better than you were before. I’ve taken a lot of risks in my life and career. Moving to different cities, leaving a full-time job to freelance, performing, and/or putting my work in front of an audience are some of the most pivotal risks I’ve taken. If it weren’t for risks, I wouldn’t be walking in my purpose or even have the confidence to know that I’m on the right path.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most excited about putting my first film, “One of The Guys” into the world. I set a goal for myself to write, direct and produce a short film, and throughout the process, I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it happen, but I did. This film is incredibly special. Our cast and crew felt like family. There was this organic chemistry with each other that felt as if we had all known each other forever, but we didn’t. The majority of people who worked on this film were Black or POC. There is a familial feeling to an on-set environment where there is safety in showing up as your authentic self and being understood. Nobody had to code-switch or question anyone’s intention, we all just got each other. It was a very rare on-set experience to have as a first-time director. I’ve built an incredibly talented and supportive creative community in the process of making this film, and my hope is to continue building with and growing that community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love peace and quiet these days, so my recommendation would be to take a hike at Temescal Canyon. The trail is nice, and the view is incredible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
