We had the good fortune of connecting with Lachlan McKillop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lachlan, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Being involved in something greater than life itself, such as Art, Acting & Filmmaking, brings me the greatest joy. Working on set alongside fellow creatives to craft captivating stories filled with vibrant worlds, compelling characters, and meaningful messages, and witnessing the emotional impact it has on audiences, is truly fulfilling to me.
Food is also a big passion of mine, obsessed even, especially Italian, Japanese, or Korean cuisine. Whenever I have free time, I enjoy exploring the city of Melbourne to find new restaurant or cafe that serve these dishes. Right now I am obsessed with ramen and Korean fried chicken. I really love Immersing myself in these cultures while dining out, it is a unique experience for me as it offers an escape from the challenges of everyday life.
Lastly, music. I could listen to music nonstop, every day. Just put on some Frank Sinatra on Spotify shuffle, and you’ll find me dancing around the house.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Lachlan McKillop and I am an Actor, born and raised in Melbourne Australia. My goal is to create characters that resonates deeply, inspiring people and helping them to truly connect and feel through my work.
My journey began from a young age. Acting was always a passion of mine which lead me to take acting classes outside of school to pursue my dream. After several years passed, my professional journey began following a six-month period in Los Angeles in 2022, during which I immersed myself in an acting conservatory program.
I booked my debut feature film role in “First Moon,” alongside Lauren Esposito from “The Conjuring 2”. Additionally, I have booked lead roles in multiple projects including portraying “Lucas” in an upcoming compelling gangster film set in Melbourne, Australia, and most recently, playing Charlie Gibbon, a lower-class Protestant farmer in 1930s Australia, in the critically acclaimed short film ‘Daisy.’ This short film, which serves as a pitch for a feature film, has just earned its tenth golden award in only two months in the film festival circuit
Excitement builds as we get ready for the late premiere of “Daisy” at The Pivotonian Cinema in Geelong. Tickets quickly sold out within just thirty minutes, showcasing the intense anticipation for the film.
With all this being said and done, this was not easy. Behind the scenes, there is a lot of sacrifice and relentless dedication, with countless hours invested behind the curtain. The best piece of advice I can give people reading this is that, you have to believe the delusion, because its only delusional until it works.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question.
I would definitely start the week by letting my friend stay with me in Melbourne. After they have settled in, I will take them into Melbourne city to explore and show them famous spots like Flinders Street Railway Station, Melbourne Skydeck, and Queen Victoria Market, if it’s open. Melbourne is such a beautiful city and has so much to offer. After showing my friend around the city, I will take them to one of my favorite ramen restaurants called Shujinko Flinders. My go-to order is the Shujinko Gyoza for an entrée and the Karakuchi ramen for the main, paired with an Asahi Super Dry Black. We will finish the first half of the week by going to a bar within the city for a few celebration drinks. In the second half of the week, I will take my friend to Torquay, a seaside town at the east end of the Great Ocean Road coastal drive, southwest of Melbourne, Australia. It’s known for surf beaches like Bells Beach and Jan Juc Beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a huge shoutout to my acting coach and mentor, Peter Blackburn.
Peter Blackburn is a highly regarded acting coach, theatre maker, and film director.
Peter holds a Masters of Directing from The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), as well as degrees in Literature, Film and Education. He was a recipient of the prestigious Mike Walsh Fellowship for Directing through the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2019, which he used to attend the UCLA Film-making program.
As an acting teacher, Peter has been on faculty at institutions such as NIDA, VCA, 16th Street Melbourne and The National Theatre Drama School.
Peter has relocated to the United States after first working in Los Angeles in 2014, assistant directing alongside renowned acting coach Larry Moss.
Acting is such a deep and personal journey, and having someone like Peter, who not only pushes me to be a better actor but also a better human being, is a blessing. He is definitely a coach deserving of recognition.
