Meet Lakaysha Redd | Entrepreneur & Social Justice Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakaysha Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakaysha, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Throughout my life, the sources of my inspiration have evolved as I’ve grown and entered different stages. Right now, I’m in a phase focused on growth and elevation, and I find myself deeply inspired by my Higher Power, God. Connecting with fellow believers and celebrating all the incredible things God has done for me fills my spirit with hope and purpose.
Rihanna also inspires me—her savvy business acumen that turned her ventures into billion-dollar successes, and the way she balances work with life, reminds me of what’s possible if I connect with the right people and networks.
I’m incredibly grateful for the female mentors and acquaintances in my life who constantly drop pearls of wisdom. Carla Steven Thompson, Chief Executive of Carla Kids Childcare, is a personal life mentor who exemplifies the elegance of balancing hard work and living lavishly while uplifting others. She’s a true boss lady who manages to cultivate a beautiful family and relationship while navigating today’s society as a strong Black woman.
Tiffany Hinton, Founder of The Connect and my business management mentor, inspires me through her humility and kindness, even as she juggles two thriving businesses. She’s a living example of how to lead with grace, no matter how much is on my plate.
Financially, I’ve been guided and inspired by Coach Regan of Ramsey Financial Peace University. Her journey from financial struggles to becoming a debt-free mentor has encouraged me to make significant changes in how I manage money. Her story is a beacon of hope for me as I am working to overcome financial challenges.
I also draw inspiration from Jazmeen Hobody, the owner of Extended Beauty Bar and a former client of Reddy To Clean. Watching her surpass a million dollars in sales during her first year and purchase her first home was incredibly motivating. Now, as a client at her salon, I continue to admire her kind spirit, her willingness to share wisdom, and her unwavering support for other women. Every time I interact with Jazmeen, whether at her salon or in conversation, I feel empowered to reach new heights in my own business.
Surrounding myself with beauty—in people, places, and experiences—continues to inspire me as I work towards living a peaceful, productive, and successful life. I’ve started buying myself flowers weekly, attending events that reflect the life I’m aiming for, and creating vision boards to keep my goals in sight. Part of this journey also involves distancing myself from those with a scarcity mindset or negative energy, so that I can maintain a focus on a brighter future for myself, my life, and my businesses.
What should our readers know about your business?
Reddy To Clean is more than just a cleaning company; it’s a reflection of my journey, resilience, and passion for creating beautiful, organized spaces. What sets us apart from others is our deep commitment to personalized service and our focus on understanding the unique needs of every client. We don’t just clean spaces—we transform them into environments where people can thrive, whether it’s a vacation rental or a beauty service salon or tattoo studio.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the strong relationships we’ve built with our clients. Over the years, we’ve earned their trust by delivering consistent, high-quality service, and it’s this trust that has allowed us to grow and expand.
Getting to where I am today with Reddy To Clean has been anything but easy. I’ve faced significant challenges, especially as a Black woman in business and someone who has had to rebuild her life after incarceration. There were moments of doubt, times when it felt like the odds were stacked against me, but I’ve always found strength in my faith, my mentors, and the community around me. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that perseverance and a strong support system are key to overcoming obstacles. When I was paroled homeless and faced with a lack of support, instead of giving up, I used those hardships as fuel to push harder, return to school, and grow my business.
Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of self-belief, resilience, and surrounding myself with positive influences. I’ve also realized that success isn’t just about financial gain—it’s about the impact you have on others, the relationships you build, and the legacy you leave behind.
What I want the world to know about Reddy To Clean is that we’re not just here to provide a service—we’re here to make a difference. Whether it’s through the spaces we clean, the jobs we create, or the lives we touch, our mission is to inspire, uplift, and empower. My brand and story are rooted in the belief that no matter where you come from or what you’ve been through, you can rise, rebuild, and achieve greatness. Every space we clean is a testament to that belief, and every client we serve is a part of our journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: Monday – Rest, Reflection & Pampering We’d kick off the week with a day of rest and reflection. First, we’d visit The Extended Beauty Bar in Glendale to get our hair done while sipping on shots or mimosas—there’s nothing like a little pampering to set the tone for the week. Afterward, we’d head over to Prettyy Girl Nails at Glamorous Mane Salon to get our nails and feet in tip-top shape.
We’d end our day with a happy hour meal at STK in Beverly Hills, where the chic atmosphere and delicious food would be the perfect finale to our day of pampering and relaxation.
Day 2: Tuesday – Tequila & Tacos On Tuesday, we’d celebrate Tequila Tuesday at one of my all-time favorite spots, Tekila in Hollywood. This place is a blast—the margaritas are strong enough to put us on our butts, the tacos are absolutely delicious, and the vibe is electric, with a Hollywood crowd that’s as diverse as the city itself.
Day 3: Wednesday – Wine & Vibes Wednesday would be all about Winedown Wednesday nights at 1010 Wine in Inglewood. This spot is a gem, offering a collection of all Black-owned wine brands that will leave you savoring every sip. The vibe here is unmatched—the DJ spins the best of 90s R&B, creating a nostalgic yet lively atmosphere. The finger food is perfectly paired with a good glass of wine, making it an ideal way to continue our LA adventure.
Day 4: Thursday – Nature & Nostalgia On Thursday, we’d take a leisurely stroll through Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge. The gardens are a peaceful retreat, filled with vibrant flowers and majestic trees that showcase God’s beauty. Walking through this botanical paradise, we’d hop on the little train that winds its way through the gardens—a whimsical experience that brings out the kid in everyone.
Day 5: Friday – Hikes & Healthy Bites Friday mornings are for rejuvenation, so we’d start the day with a morning hike. Depending on our mood, we might choose the stunning cliffs at Donald Trump Golf Course in Palos Verdes, the serene trails of Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, or the panoramic views from Kenneth Hahn Park. After the hike, we’d head to Simply Wholesome in Black Beverly Hills. This spot is a community treasure, offering all-natural food and health products. I’d recommend trying the flavorful Jerk Chicken patty or the Crab/Shrimp patty—it’s the perfect way to refuel.
To cool off, we’d stroll across the street to New Orleans Sno Balls. Nothing beats the heat like their bubble gum snowball with sweet condensed milk, served the New Orleans way. It’s a sweet treat that takes me back to childhood summers in Louisiana.
Day 6: Saturday – Art & Laughter Saturday afternoons are all about relaxation with a twist, so we’d stop by The Artist Tree in West Hollywood. This unique spot offers a combination of cannabis-infused sips and good vibes, right on the famous strip. We’d play fun-themed games, listen to great music, and soak in the Hollywood atmosphere.
As the sun sets, we’d get ready for a night of laughter at The Speakeasy Comedy Show at The Connect in Los Angeles. Every 3rd Saturday of the month, this event is a guaranteed mood booster with its perfect cocktails, good food, and hilarious comedians.
Day 7: Sunday – Brunch, Beach & Jazz Sunday brunch is a must, and there’s no better place than Mama Por Dios in Beverly Hills. The décor is stunning, with seasonal touches that make every visit feel special. The multiple mimosa flavors are a delight, but the star of the show is the Cinnamon Toast Crunch French toast—it’s like a sweet trip back to childhood.
After brunch, we’d head to Santa Monica for a bit of self-care. A relaxing massage at The Now is just what we’d need to unwind, followed by a serene walk on the beach at Santa Monica Beach. The sound of the waves, the cool breeze, and the soft sand beneath our feet would be the perfect way to wrap up the day.
But the evening wouldn’t be complete without ending it on a high note. We’d head over to Pips on La Brea for a hearty supper while soaking in the smooth jazz vibes. It’s the perfect spot to dance the night away, enjoying good drinks surrounded by a mature and sexy crowd of people.
By the end of the week, my best friend would have experienced the very best of Los Angeles—from the vibrant culture and incredible food to the stunning natural beauty and unforgettable experiences. This city has so much to offer, and I’d make sure they left with memories that would last a lifetime.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to God, the true driver of my life, whose grace and forgiveness have never wavered. His presence has guided me through every challenge, and I’m forever grateful for His unwavering support.
I also want to dedicate this shoutout to the incredible women and individuals who have surrounded me with love, support, and guidance over the past five years, especially as I navigated life after incarceration. These amazing people have been my pillars of strength, helping me rebuild and grow.
A special shoutout goes to the beautiful and welcoming community of Pasadena, California. The warmth and acceptance I’ve felt here have been nothing short of life-changing. To my female mentors, I am endlessly thankful for the love and wisdom you share with me. Your choice to take me under your wings has been a blessing, and I’m honored to be your mentee.
I’d also like to recognize 2nd Call, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, CA, for their unwavering support and the invaluable lessons that have kept me grounded and away from paths that could have led to darker places. You’ve helped shape the person I am today.
To all my clients, supporters, and anyone who has believed in my businesses or me—thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support fuels my passion and drive.
A huge shoutout goes to my church family at Second Baptist Church of Monrovia, Pastor Chris, and his family. Your steadfast dedication to teaching the truth from the Bible and accepting me without judgment has given me a spiritual home where I feel truly embraced.
I also want to acknowledge CDCR. While my 14 years of incarceration allowed me the time to educate and heal myself, the lack of support upon my release, including being paroled homeless and losing my transitional housing, pushed me to grind harder. These challenges motivated me to return to school and work towards the life I have today.
To those who doubted me, thank you. Your negativity and skepticism only fueled my determination to succeed. To the men and women still incarcerated, keep your heads up and continue fighting for a better day. And to those who are free, keep reaching for the stars—there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
Lastly, I want to honor my parents, Everett Lee Redd and Linda Kaya Roberson. Though they are no longer with me, their lessons live on. My father’s business mindset taught me to always strive for excellence, and my mother’s hustler spirit showed me that I could wear multiple hats and be anything I wanted to be. Their influence is the foundation of my perseverance and success.
