We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakesha Foreman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakesha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My first thought process was to just BREATHE. Sounds funny but it actually works. New ventures can be intimidating.
Next I surrounded my self with individuals who were not afraid to go down this journey with me and had just as much passion if not more. Entering the wine and spirit industry was and is a field you don’t expect someone to just jump into without previous knowledge.
Next I did a lot of research on other Spirit brands, and found out less than 5% we’re BLACK OWNED brands, which increased My eagerness to start my very own.
My last step was simply to execute. I found a distiller in Florida. Developed the formula that was like no other. Selected the bottles image and marketing plan. Less than 6 month Blackstorm Ultra Premium Vodka was born.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the owner of The Blackstorm Brand LLC a wine and Spirit Distribution company and the owner of Blackstorm Vodka.
I’m the 1st Black Owned Woman owned brand and Distributor in Southern California building a platform for other wine and spirits brands.
I’ve created a platform for individuals to prosper in the spirit industry by providing the necessary tools to succeed and for individuals who are looking for a new spirit to satisfy there palettes and that’s the fun part.
Creating a Vodka in COVID climate may have been one of my biggest challenge. All restaurants and bars were closed so I had to think fast and have a back up plan. Since everyone was at home I signed up with a company that delivered wine and Spirit to individuals at home something like grub hub. This may have been one of meaning decisions I didn’t regret.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would first go to the District by the GS in Los Angeles. The atmosphere alone is enough with the food drinks and live band. If she wanted to go somewhere closer to the water I would take her to the Pike in Long Beach or jimmy E’s in signal hills.
Depending on what was going on for the weekend a nice comedy show is always the best way to end a weekend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first like to thank my life partner Deshawn who has been through the entire process. The support from family may be the most important part in running a successful business. It doesn’t always happen but when it does, it makes running a business so much easier.
