Meet Larissa Hadjio | Clothing Designer – Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Larissa Hadjio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Larissa, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Having worked in high-end fashion for years but becoming a parent I shifted my focus completely of clothing design. Instead of purely beautiful and fun cloths + accessories, I started to look at how each material I used was made. What impact it had on the environment and the people that worked on the products.
I set out to make great but affordable essentials for kids.
Modal my newest focus, a fabric of the future, uses a fraction of water – compared to cotton + organic cotton, it comes from monitored beech tree forests, unlike bamboo. And is soft and great for sensitive skin.
I want to make great fabric + simple and good design accessible to my community, parents, mothers 🙂

What should our readers know about your business?
It’s been a journey, truly so. I have always been entrepreneurial and creative and running my own company was inevitable. The challenge is to get through each challenge one at a time. I certainly have learned a lot about my own processes and am open to where to learn and challenge myself. You sometimes hear about the amazingness of multitasking. But the reality is, to focus on one issue at a time brings better results.
Mäus wants to be truly supporting parents on their journey, and being a company that makes it easier for parents easier not harder.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in Topanga, which is the first canyon of the Malibu mountains, and actually not that far away from the city as most think. When we have friends visiting LA we take them one night to Pizza, our local Topanga place: Endless Color – perfect for little ones to run around.
Topanga beach obviously. It also has good parking and some toilets. And the best surf watching 🙂
My husband is a Kiwi and fish and chips at the beach for a sunset is a must, drive up to Malibu Seafood.
Take a hike up through Griffith Park, maybe a picnic with one of the city’s views, then have dinner at Little Dom’s.
I am a fan of downtown’s rooftop terraces, my son loves watching helicopters! Did you know LA has the biggest helicopter fleet in the US?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to all the people that support me on my journey, especially my husband who – also a product designer – is always there with encouragement. He is amazing at keeping my focus on what is important, sometimes just having fun, relax and reset.
And my circle of amazing girlfriends I lean on for advice, a cup of tea or a walk through the hills.
Shout out to Erin Falconer and Jette Miller!
