We had the good fortune of connecting with Larren Wong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Larren, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

“The motivation to start my own business came from my experiences in various organizations where I had little control over the direction. These experiences fueled my desire to create something I could shape and offer to the world without compromising my values.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe that teaching myself music, playing instruments, and producing gives my work a unique cohesiveness across genres. I’m particularly proud of my deep understanding of music and the progress I’ve made toward my goal of establishing myself in LA from scratch. Entering the music industry without any familial or social connections can be challenging both emotionally and socially, but I’ve persevered through that initial resistance and am now seeing the rewards. This journey has taught me the importance of showing up every day and recognizing the significance of every small step. I’ve also learned that the best way to achieve our goals is to fall in love with the process, not just the end result. I want people to understand the importance of familial and community support, along with my belief in myself and my determination to overcome adversity in pursuit of our dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As soon as they put their bags down I would take them to go work out at Soho House downtown. Then probably get a smoothie or açai bowl from Uba Tuba on Western and sixth. From there, I would recommend visiting my engineer friends at the Korea town studio. Then for dinner, I would take them to Bacari Silverlake. The next morning, I would drive them to the ServingSpoon in Inglewood and hardly ever home or Black on the block were throwing events. I would take them to that as well

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout Jay Aka Plè Anthony. My story in LA begins with a guy named Jay Anthony. He essentially showed me the ropes of the music industry. He provided me with a place to stay, studio time, introduced me to important contacts, and helped me secure my first major label placement as a writer and producer. I have a lot of love and gratitude for Jay!
