We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTanya Sherman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTanya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most imortant factor is having a DYNAMIC Board of Directors and Advisors who not only see your vision but wholeheartedly believe in it and are excited to do the work that is required to bring the vision to fruition. Creating space and time to create, plan, and execute our various programs and services while utiliizing the individual and combined strengths and skill sets of each Board Member and Advisor to achieve the greatest outcomes.

What should our readers know about your business?
Project Educate is an approved Los Angeles based 501(c)(3) organization that seeks to prevent, interrupt, and minimize the dehumanizing effects of homelessness. In addition to providing basic needs services, we provide and/or facilitate assistance in housing, healthcare, social and personal development that lead to healthier life choices and a healthier way of living. We are committed to providing our community with resources tailored made for them through our FED program and TAG, HOPE, and SWAP services.

We are excited for 2023 as we move forward with our adopt a school initiative to provide services to underserved and underpriviledged students attending Raymond Avenue Elementary School in South Los Angeles as we continue to service all Los Angeles residents experiencing homelessness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends are in town it’s all about the food and drinks. We would have to hit up the Flavor Table, Coffee Company and Court Cafe for breakfast/lunch. Calo Kitchen+Tequilla for chips & salsa and margaritas. Fixins for soul food and Stevie’s for Gumbo. Cocktails at 3rd Base and a visit to Disneyland.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Board of Directors and Advisors have been instrumental in the success of Project Educate. From supporting the development of programs and services that support the infrastructure and growth to generating funds and coordinating community events this Board and Advisors Group is one of a kind. What’s unique is that everyone who supports Project Educate is a volunteer and this team devotes their time, resources, and knowledge for the benefit of Project Educate and those we serve. Shoutout to Evynn Davis, LaTonya Reliford, Orlance Shirley, Kim Jackson-Matthews, Miracle Wilber, Sherrie Thomas, Trenece Crawford and Shilana Williams.
