We had the good fortune of connecting with Latisha Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaTisha, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success, was simply ‘knowing’ that I was capable of becoming somebody, and realizing that I have something to offer. Throughout my life before the age of twenty-eight, I’ve always been abused, left out, rejected and overlooked. All of these things would come against my character and affect my looks. Although my brand/ministry “The Modern Day 31” is reaching over hundreds of men and women over social media, it was never like this before. It was a struggle back then, to realize whatever trail that I’d have ever faced, it was faced for a reason. But before I could do the things that I knew that I could do, I had to put my past behind me and move forward. I stopped allowing the judgments from people, to keep me in bondage. I had to choose to listen to the opposite of being indifferent in other people’s sight, and choose to be “feminine” and begin living in that passion, and turning it into passion, to introduce to other women, that trauma doesn’t have to have a look.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to setting myself apart it isn’t easy for me, it took a while to get through trauma and abuse, but it is definitely worth giving myself a chance to set myself apart from the naysayer’s and the unbelievers, and even from my own mental critics. As I went back into my past and viewed how I would always present myself, and what I stood for in my heart, that helped me realize what my true passion was. Although I am a Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Teacher and I like what I do and have been doing it for almost ten years now, that alone never shadowed my heart’s true passion as an individual. I still do teach children but I also teach about Etiquette as well, that’s where I mainly got the idea to get things started as an entrepreneur. I have been on this feminine etiquette journey publicly for about three years now. I have accumulated a little over 800 supporters on social media, on my brand alone, where I teach and present these things, but I still wanted to hold myself much more accounted and critique my craft. I’ve gravitated to turn my pain into laughter, and allowed God to turn my ashes into beauty. The moment I realized that I was a catch after the trauma, I knew right then and there, that I wanted to teach women how to overcome their trauma and live life to the fullest, as being the soft, elegant, vibrant, Christian woman, that she was formed to be. I studied as an Etiquette Consultant at “International Association of Professions Career College” and received a good score on the final exam, this is what helped helped me become more hands on in a sense, when it came to changing the image of a woman, to help escape her past, and to just simply help a woman grow in etiquette and being poise. I also set up counseling sessions to further go in depth of different things that a woman desires to seek help in areas, that are hard for her to open up about in general. Since I have been doing these endeavors my traveling engagements have increased, just to teach about womanhood, even though my husband is a pastor, it goes hand in hand in ministry. I now tell my testimony at different organizations, that support women that have been battered and abused. Not only am I hands on with my craft but to become different on purpose for a purpose. I set myself apart alone by simply being a devoted Christian, but to actually “love” people is something that is no longer normal in today’s society. This isn’t a job for me, this is a forever passion that’ll last a lifetime.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m pretty much a simple lady, but at the same time, very feminine in just about EVERYTHING that I get myself into. I don’t have favorite places, because I simply support where there is good food, a laid back environment, and that is free Spirited. Overall, I would choose to take my best friend to Daytona Fl, Ormond Beach or Savannah Georgia. Out of those three places we can have safe clean fun, enjoy the scenery and enjoy some great food for a week long trip.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I honestly want to honor my husband in this moment…before meeting my husband I was not this person that I am now, but that didn’t stop my husband from helping me become who I am. When I met my husband we both, were at our lowest. We helped each other overcome battles that no one hardly knows about. He has helped me in ways that those that I looked up to, that abandoned the assignment. There have been times that my husband stood up for me, when people came against me in private. My husband helped grow me up, glow up, show up and become the feminine woman that I am today. I can definitely say that he has a piece of my heart, it’ll be hard to oversee obstacles within his insight, his Spirit, and the prophetic that he carries within himself.
