We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Demuth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Enjoy every minute.” As a working mom of two young kids, it’s impossible to heed this advice consistently while maintaining your peace and sanity. Painting a picture that we should be exuding nothing but gratitude at at all times can set us up for unnecessary feelings of shame and guilt. Instead, I choose to enjoy most minutes, but not all. It’s okay to say that things are are hard sometimes, and speaking that truth in turn helps others feel they are not alone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my career in traditional healthcare settings ranging from inpatient hematology/oncology to outpatient internal medicine, and always found myself wanting more out of my career. It’s hard for singular healthcare providers to make a difference. Almost nine years ago, I made the pivot into healthcare technology in the startup space and I have never looked back! Digital health has been transformative in recent years for providing access to quality care that wasn’t possible even a decade ago. I’m energized and inspired by all the ways technology and market positioning can elevate an offering to patients and consumers that will change their lives for the better. A big learning curve for me has been the pivot into a business role — I’ve had to do a lot of learning on the fly, and seeking out resources to help me elevate my skillset to ways I wasn’t traditionally trained. There is so much value in trained healthcare providers being in leadership and decision-making roles in organizations where clinicians are providing care.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I firmly believe in a village in all areas of our lives, both personally and professionally. And in many cases, these villages are grown and cultivated intentionally. It’s funny to think of myself as “successful” because I often don’t, as I see a long road ahead and many ways in which I wish to continue to grow. At this point where I am now, I have so many people to be grateful for, including my husband Dave, my incredible colleagues, team, and boss, as well as a network of women I like to call my “personal board of directors”.
