We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Leonelli Jenifer Golden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren Leonelli, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We’ve always known the world of entertainment is risky, however we’ve never let it stop us. We would have an idea and take it one step at a time, pushing forward to our next goal, and pivoting if need be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We feel that our art is story telling and our podcast is a medium to showcase how unique and relatable we can be at the same time. There is an art in our banter and cadence with each other that comes from a natural friend chemistry but it is also cultivated and honed over years of practice as a hosting duo. It has been natural for us, as we both love what we do and we have connected well together from day one but it has not always been easy. We have had to fight for complete control over our show and our guests and ultimately, we run our podcast from top to bottom every week between the two of us. We book our guests, market our show, research our topics as well as hosting and editing all of our episodes. We have learned that what we want for our show can be achieved if we work together toward a common goal. We have learned to trust our talent and natural hosting instincts because they always get positive reactions and we have learned to lean on each other, because when you are making live art, there is no time to stop, so when we know we can depend on the other for support, it makes it all seem possible. We want the world to know that our brand is dating, relationships and most importantly love, including the highs and lows that we all experience – together as a community. We tell our personal stories weekly and think women and men should feel comfortable expressing their own stories in the dating world too! It takes a village.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love LA and have come to call it home. There’s nothing like its blue skies and beautiful sunsets, as well as the various areas each with their own specific personality. Because of the vast amount of activities and overwhelming number of options, Lauren has named Jen “Yelpifer” because she always has suggestions on hand for the perfect itinerary. Eat Elephante in Santa Monica – it’s delicious, the decor is gorgeous, the view is incredible, and it’s where we celebrated Lauren’s engagement! Marvin in West Hollywood – it’s european, fun and great for brunch or a date. Las Palmas Pop-up at EPLP – it’s giving major Tulum vibes during a time where you can’t easily get to Tulum. The food is GOOD and even though the drinks are on the expensive side, it’s totally forgivable because of the out of the world view of LA. Drink Sunset Tower in West Hollywood – Classic Hollywood vibes, crazy views of the city, speak easy type of scene at night with live music, and GIANT aperol spritzes. Zinque – It’s got a European vibe and great patio scene. Order Le Bowl and a a glass of rose. C’est magnifique! Hang out Culver City has totally become a thing and is a great central spot to hang out. There are movie theaters, restaurants, shops and workouts. LACMA Jazz Nights – Bring a picnic and set up shop outside of the museum for free live music once the world goes back to normal.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We always say, it takes a village to date so we would like to give a shout out to our friends (you know who you are), who are our dating community! Our closest girl and guy friends are the very people that inspired It’s Complicated and are the reason our show has sustained close to 250 episodes. We began on the premise that we ALL talk about dating and love, no matter which relationship stage we are at, so why not talk about it candidly and publicly so we could reach a larger community of people who needed some advice from experts, authors, doctors, actors and girls like us!
