Meet Lauren Poole | Mixed media and fiber artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Poole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Pretty much from birth, we are told to be productive contributing members of society. For the better part of our lives we are focused on establishing a career. If you’re lucky, you find something to do that you tolerate and pays the bills. I wanted more than that. I wanted to feel fulfilled, impassioned. I wanted a career that was on my terms. For me, art is not only fulfilling, but it is the truest expression of myself. It is my preferred method of interacting with world. Once I got the idea in my head to pursue creating more seriously, I couldn’t shake it. We all live one life, and I wanted my life to mean more than just the 9-5 rat race.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been inundated in the creative world since I was a young child. I used to watch my mom sew all my Halloween costumes, or help her paint a mural on one of the walls in our house. I watched my sister embark on a career as a medical illustrator. I remember being in awe staring at her portfolio. Losing myself in art was easy for me because art was the first method I learned for self expression. However, Making a career out of it, was the furthest thing from easy. I was lucky to have friends in my life who helped me with creating my logo and my website. They helped me set up my vendor tables and pass out cards or share all my social media posts. Without that support I wouldn’t have been able to get off the ground. I think there’s a little something for everyone in my work and I’m excited to share it. From my acrylic paint collage series to my crochet clothing and accessory designs, to my paper maché sculptures.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely have to visit the Getty. A must for a California trip. We’d absolutely have to hit up sugar fish, my favorite sushi spot. Koreatown is one of my favorite neighborhoods for food and karaoke! We’ll probably do some line dancing at an LA spot and finish the trip with a beach bonfire down at seal beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shout out to my friends and family who have supported my artistic endeavors from the beginning. My mom Sabrina and my sister Robina are the largest artistic forces in my life and have helped me grow in skill and confidence. My dad Tobias has always supported me and given me solid career advice and encouragement as I pursued my artistic dream. I have a beautiful support system of friends as well. They are always attending my events and purchasing my pieces. I’d like to give a special shout out to Kali, Phoenix, Micheal, and Sydney. All have contributed to my dreams and I am so thankful.
