We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren St. Clair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business because i knew i wanted to challenge myself artistically and follow my dreams of becoming something/someone big. I had no clue on how i was going to start but then something in my mind just clicked. I had never even used a sewing machine before let alone run a business, but i knew i had to get started.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is not only quality but the fact that i put so much love into the pieces that i make. Shopping at huge retailers like Shein or Forever21 might be cheaper but if you knew how that item was being made or who was making it and their working situations, you might think differently. Thats why their prices are always so much cheaper than small business or swimsuit brands that hand-make their pieces because so much work, time, and love are put into them. SAINT CLAIR has had a few big changes throughout its time. The brand was originally called “St. Clairs Customs” which specialized in re-working bigger named brands like Supreme and OffWhite. I would use an original OffWhite belt or an original supreme boxer band and sew them onto women’s clothes so women could wear street wear fashion too. After doing that for a year i wanted to do something new. Then i started making designer inspired pieces for another year. Then i started realizing i could get into legal trouble. I knew i needed something different. Something i could call my own. Something that was all me. I knew my brand needed a transformation. Thats when SAINT CLAIR was born. From designing to selecting the fabric to sewing each piece on my own. I now mostly specialize in swimwear/beachwear with the occasional request of women’s dresses and 2 piece sets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would just like to thank everyone who has always supported my business and my dreams. These people know who they are and i wouldn’t be where i am today without them. Every time i was down or thought about giving up, they kept pushing me and reminded me why i was doing this in the first place. I couldn’t be more grateful for each and every one of you.
