We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Martin-Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For me, becoming a Musician was never a choice… mainly because I didn’t even allow myself to consider another path. Music is what keeps me going and what sets my soul on fire so it made perfect sense to me to try and make it into a Career. Why would I put time into a regular job or another line of work when my heart could never really be in it?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I come from the Gold Coast, Australia and this is where I first started playing and performing music- I was around 10. I went to University and completed a Bachelor of Popular Music through the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and also completed a Grad. Dip in Contemporary Music Performance.

The whole while I was performing anywhere I could find a call out for live music, first as a solo acoustic act and then later as a full band. At the end of 2013 I was invited to travel to Los Angeles, CA and this is where I have been based since January 1st 2014. I put all of my energy into my music- meeting local musicians, forming a band (Evol Walks) and writing new material.

We were lucky enough to tour through Australia, parts of Europe and West Coast USA in the first 18 months of being together.

Since this time, I have worked with musicians from all over the world, I have just returned from being in Stockholm, Sweden working on a new album and I am preparing a new project for release. It has definitely been tough- as anyone will tell you, the Music Industry is not kind but it has been worth it!

Right now, we have a bunch of new music and material that we are waiting to release. A new video that should be dropped by April (crossing fingers!) and another exciting project I cannot say much about.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am presently visiting my hometown on the Gold Coast so this list is a little different to if I was back in Los Angeles.

I would definitely take them to either Tarte Cafe, The Paddock or Bam Bam Bakehouse for delicious Brunch! We would head to Currumbin Rockpools and then up to Gallery Walk on Tambourine Mountain to get some much needed Nature time in. For the evening- dinner in Nobbys and then headed to Nightjar or Pink Monkey in Burleigh to soak up the nightlife.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve definitely given shoutouts to my Family and Friends before and I will do so again. Without their never ending support I definitely would have given up a long, long time ago.
