We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Frechen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lena, how do you think about risk?
I love the saying ‘If you don’t take risks, nothing will change’ and I live by that quote. I moved to Australia when I was 18 and worked for a Charity Organization for a couple of months in Sydney. After moving back to my hometown and graduating from College I knew it was time for the next chapter so I packed my bags again and moved to NYC 🙂 I didn’t know anyone when I moved, but I was ready and as we all know, great things never come from comfort zone. I am not gonna lie, the first couple of weeks in New York were a lot, new people, new work environment – new everything. But here I am now, more than two years later, more than 2 years of calling NYC home. A lot has happened in the past two years but what I am most proud of is my baby ‘LYF Socials’. While working as a Social Media Manager full-time for a Real Estate Team, I recognized the general demand for social media services, so I took the leap and decided to open my own Social Media Agency. Long story short, if you dream of something, and you can’t stop thinking about it: Work as hard as you can to turn this dream into reality.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m honestly excited about my whole life in NYC and everything that is yet to come! I always wanted to be my own boss, and to be honest I didn’t always feel appreciated so this is something I want to do 100% differently with my own team. Ensuring everyone feels valued. I can only live my dream because of their amazing help. We are a team of 6 now, all super passionate about our job. Our clients vary from a local print shop in Chelsea to a Biotech company or an influencer based in San Diego. I really love the variety this job brings with it. I love working with people, learning about our clients, and their stories, and telling their brand’s story on Social Media + seeing them succeed. I also know that not everyone is used to talking in front of the camera and it’s a challenge for most, so we really try to make sure that our clients feel comfortable. I always tell my clients: ‘I have a front-row seat to support you’. I think what sets us apart is that we really put our heart into our job. And this goes far over taking videos. Many of our clients have become friends, we have the same goals, this is why my agencies’ motto is: You’ve got this, we’ve got this! It’s all about teamwork. I am constantly on the lookout for opportunities for them, last week for instance I went to this restaurant in Brooklyn and I saw a girl who I thought would be the perfect model for a client so we exchanged contacts and I introduced her to my client or I even have moments when I wake up at night with a great idea for a client which I immediately have to write down. What can I say, I also feel like I am repeating myself, but I truly love what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is actually a funny question because I just said goodbye to my best friend yesterday, who was visiting for a week from Germany. I have to say that it was not her first time visiting me in NYC so we already checked things like Times Square or Statue of Liberty off the list 😀 So this time I wanted to give her a more local experience and she loved it. Anyways, I usually take my friends to Dumbo on their first evening, the views are just amazing and it gives you the feeling of ‘Wow, I’m really in NYC!’. Brunch is definitely on the list as well + if we have time then a Spa Day on Governors Island. I also really like showing my friends different neighborhoods, from shopping in Soho, to lunch in Little Italy and then there is this really cool Speakeasy in Chinatown. Every neighborhood is so unique and I love showing my friends the variety of NYC. In Summer I like to take them to the Beach because no one expects beaches here 😀 Rooftop bars are a must too + I love that there’s always something to do in NYC. So for example very soon, we have outdoor movies at Bryant Park again, which I think is really cool as well. The list is endless!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Recognition in my story definitely belongs to my grandparents, even from afar – they support me however they can. Sometimes, just a five-minute phone call with them makes everything fine. I am grateful for my long-distance friends; although I haven’t seen some of them for more than two years, I feel their support, which means a lot. Also, I post on my private TikTok account about moving abroad and my goal is to encourage people to follow their dreams + to give them tips, but at the same time their daily messages and support mean a lot to me as well! And last but not least: my chosen NYC family, the people I’ve met throughout the years, who are there for me in this crazy, beautiful journey.
