We had the good fortune of connecting with Le’Serone Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Le’Serone, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I truly believe that finding balance between work and home is one of the most important things on this journey. From when I first started, ten years ago, until now, I’ve become a husband, father, and more people trust me as a leader. This calls for a higher level of balance because my time has to be efficiently allocated. It would be detrimental to my health if I work too much or if I allowed myself to be pulled too far away from accomplishing goals because of the desire to help others. Balance is key!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Le’Serone Smith, artist name Poetic Lace. I’m the nephew of the late great Johnny “Guitar” Watson and the son of Pretty P.T. My mom, brother and I moved from Compton, California to Jacksonville, Florida after my dad was murdered when I was 3 years old. Music and film have always been in my DNA, but they didn’t truly show themselves until the Summer of 2010 when I heard Yahweh’s (God’s) voice. He told me to quit playing college basketball and move to Miami, Florida. So I transferred to Florida International University and shortly became homeless, health stricken, and financially deprived. This experience was the turning point that showed me that I’m not the things that I have, but I am who the God that has me says I am. After Yah restored me, I became extremely zealous about serving the Lord Yeshua (Jesus) with my entire life. So I dropped out of college and became God’s poet by the name of Poetic Lace. Fast forward to now, I’m an award winning Hip Hop artist and film maker, and I’m the president of my record label and film production company, Yahweh’s Kingdom Forever, LLC, and nonprofit organization Yahweh’s Kingdom Forever Church, INC. I’m extremely proud of the man that I’ve grown into and the most important lesson that I’ve learned is that God is always in control.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many that I want to thank for my success that I don’t have the time to mention them all! First and most importantly I have to thank the Most High God Yahweh through His Son Yeshua (Jesus)! I love and am thankful for my wife Leezola Smith and son Immanuel Smith. I’m also super thankful for my mom and stepdad Monika and Keith Clary. And last but not least I’m thankful for my brother and sister Johnny Smith and Ky’Mon Clary.
