Meet Lila Kova | DJ, Producer & Violinist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lila Kova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lila, how do you think about risk?
I’ve always been someone who loves taking risks and challenging myself. I’ve never wanted to follow the crowd—I’ve always aimed to do something different, something that others weren’t already doing. The uncertainty of the outcome was part of the thrill.
As a classically trained violinist with a deep love for electronic music, I decided to merge the two and create a techno/violin project. When you step outside the norm, people will often tell you it won’t work, that no one will like it. I heard that countless times, but I stayed true to my vision—and it’s paying off.
I believe taking risks is essential. It means thinking differently, not following the masses, and trusting your instincts. When you do that, you set yourself on the path to success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Coming from a classical music background with a deep understanding of chord progressions and music theory, I naturally incorporate these elements into my productions and live sets. I bring my violin into my performances, which not only enhances the experience but also adds a unique layer of excitement for both me and the audience. Adding a live instrument to techno creates a fascinating contrast—merging the hardness of powerful beats with the softness of melody, making the music both intense and expressive.
Last year, I released my first EP, and this year, I already have several tracks scheduled for release. Right now, I’m working on a full album that fuses my academic background with underground music. I’m especially excited about this project because it will feature compositions from classical composers dating back to the 17th century, reimagined for a new audience that might not typically engage with this kind of music.
How Did I Get Here?
It’s been a long journey—full of mistakes, setbacks, and lessons. I’ve been passionate about electronic music since I was 17, and after graduating from music conservatory, I decided not to follow the conventional path of performing in an orchestra. Instead, I pursued a more modern direction, performing violin at events with contemporary music.
When I moved to Los Angeles in 2017, I met a guitarist who was starting an instrumental rock band, and I joined them. We released an album together, but unfortunately, the band eventually split. After that, I collaborated with a friend on a DJ/violin duo, but due to personal issues, that project didn’t last either. That’s when I made the decision to start my own project—where I could fully express my vision by both DJing and playing violin. And that’s how Lila Kova was born.
Lessons I’ve Learned
The most important lesson? Never stop. If something isn’t working, keep moving. Explore new possibilities. Don’t listen to pessimists who tell you it won’t work just because they’ve never seen it done before. The only person you should listen to is yourself. Follow your heart.
Don’t be afraid to be different and experiment. I’ve faced plenty of obstacles—and still do—but I see a clear path ahead. Challenges don’t discourage me; they push me to work harder. I thrive on them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Koreatown, I’m surrounded by so many incredible places to eat and drink—I barely ever need to leave! Haha. You can even find food at 4 or 5 AM if you want to.
Let’s start with my favorite Korean barbecue spot—Oo Kook Korean BBQ. It’s all-you-can-eat, and the quality of the meat is top-notch. For pho, my go-to is Pho Guy Vietnamese Noodle House—always a solid choice.
Grand Central Market in downtown is a fun place to visit for food since it has a great selection of different cuisines. And if you’re into karaoke, Café Brass Monkey in K-town is a must-visit—super fun vibes.
When it comes to nightlife, Bar Sinister is definitely an iconic spot. It has a unique dark, gothic atmosphere with an interesting crowd. Just make sure to check their dress code before going! They also feature live performances from bands and artists, which adds to the experience.
If you’re into the underground party scene, some of my favorite events to check out are 6AM, Technofam, Tech Me Out, Incognito and Lickndip. They mostly specialize in techno and house music and always bring a great vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My boyfriend, Alex—he always believes in me and supports me tremendously. I couldn’t have done it without his love and encouragement.
