We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilia Velasco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lilia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
L7 Plant Studio started with the intention to help people bring nature into their space and help them understand the benefits of plants in their home, office and or business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
L7 Plant Studio evolved from my personal journey with plants during the COVID pandemic. I wanted to share with others the benefits of bringing nature into personal spaces to add joy, serenity, and beauty. We create one-of-a-kind designs tailored specific to the space. We provide accessible and sustainable designs by sharing our knowledge of plants through hands-on care and guidance. All of our plants come with specific care recommendations and tips to help your plants thrive. We know plants can be intimidating for some, so we are here to help! L7 Plant Studio also offers plant care and maintenance services for clients that love the benefits of plants but don’t have the time to care for them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I know it’s cliche, but since I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I love to go to Southern California beaches as much as possible. It’s always a fun time! There’s this food truck in Venice that has the best ceviche in LA. I always bring a small cooler for the ceviche and a bottle of champagne for a picnic on the beach. A sunrise hike at Griffith Park never disappoints. The great thing about LA is it’s always hiking season. Griffith Park offers easy routes or challenging hikes. Another great hike is Eaton Canyon Falls – the waterfall is so pretty! After the hike, I recommend a rooftop restaurant to enjoy lunch with a beautiful view.

The Huntington Botanical Gardens is a must see. It is stunning and a great place to unwind. For a plant lover like me, it’s inspiring. My favorite time of the day to go is at sunset. I love watching the lush plants take in the final rays of the sun. For dinner, Los Angeles is a paradise. There is so much good food around.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is truly no single person, there are so many people who have helped me along my entrepreneurship journey! I take inspiration and advice from my LA community, books and fellow entrepreneurs. My success has been supported by the people I met when I first started my plant business at Runyon Canyon, to the books that have fueled my passion for continuous learning and growth, all the way to my family and friends.

I am blessed to have so many people who believe in me and continue to support my dream. Owning a business is a constant work in progress – there is no overcoming all challenges. However, I’ve learned to appreciate the good and accept the challenges, as those lessons have helped me grow.
