Meet Liliana Yang | Filmmaker (Director, Writer, Actor)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Liliana Yang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liliana, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I often hear people talking about your inability as a person, that you have to rely on something to achieve your goal. However, my life philosophy is accepting your weakness, solve the problems, and improve yourself, and always be confident about your own strength.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m very grateful for my resilience and perseverance towards filmmaking. It has been such a challenging journey that I cannot even describe in words. The only thing that keeps me continuing to strive is my faith. Filmmaking is such a powerful medium that can inspire billions of people by telling uplifting, beautiful stories. I want to use it as a tool to show the world that despite difficulties in life, we always look into the future.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always like to watch the sunset at Mount Wilson Observatory. Being alone above 5000ft, I feel so close to the sky. There’s a scenic spot nearby called the Rim hiking trail, where you can see the sunset above the clouds. However, the beautiful view can only be seen when it’s cloudy, and you need to check the forecast for wind direction in order to really catch the view.
I was very lucky one time to see the full sunset from beginning to end, but the view is so stunning that I almost confuse it with the sunrise. This inspired me to create an oil painting of this stunning view, where if you turn the painting around, it’s a sunrise.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I left my own country since I was 14 and relocated to Singapore. I was then enrolled into a catholic school, where my history teacher taught me all the wisdom in life that benefiting me until now. He is an angel to me. Even though we lost contact after I came to the U.S., but I always remember his words.
