We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda Escamilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linda, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life has taught me that you will never be prepare for anything if you don’t take that risk. I’ve learned that our time isn’t promised and waiting for the “right moment” might never happen if you don’t take action. There was a time in my life where anxiety was my biggest bully. Anxiety was affecting my personal and work life and I would be very depressed about it. I was afraid to step out of my comfort zone and to try new things because my anxiety would lie to me, telling me that it was not safe for me to do and to step back. Now that I reflect back on that, I tell myself, how would I’ve known that whatever move I wanted to do what not okay if I never tried? What if that risk could have been an opportunity? Yes, it is scary when we don’t know the answer to an outcome but I believe it is in that moment where you have to tell yourself : This can either be a lesson that I have learned or I’m proud of myself for doing this and saying yes. When COVID happened, I took the risk by offering house calls , which led me to starting my own business and later on to expand my massage career online by teaching others my modalities. I am now creating my dream life because of the risks that I took. I am so proud of myself to see how much I’ve grown in my personal and professional life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been a licensed massage therapist for 4 years. I run my small massage business, Camilla Bodywork, inside The Pretty Jimmy in Whittier, CA. I have been a small business owner for 3 years. I specialize in helping the body to detox with a lymphatic drainage massage and to relief the body from tension with a deep tissue massage that comes with cupping. I offer other services such a prenatal and post op massage for my clients who just had plastic surgery and needs their lymphatic drainage massage to help with healing. I just started The Detox Method which is my online business where I teach my massage modalities such as lymphatic drainage and I will be adding more courses in the future.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to Bar Flores. I feel like it’s the perfect getaway to escape the world and enjoy the environment in there with a Moscow mule with mezcal. It’s a great hangout spot and the vibes there are always wonderful!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shoutout to my family and my dear friends Ashley Miller, Yadi, Regina and my cousin Vanessa. My family has always been there for me in my greatest and darkest times of my life. Because of them, they taught me what is loyalty and love. Yadi has been my best friend since we were 10. This girl is my other half and has supported my dreams. She has helped me into become the woman who I am today and has helped my business since the beginning and who actually introduced me to Ashley! Ashley offered me to rent a room in her shop for my massage business which is where I learned and grown as a small business owner and entrepreneur. She is someone who I will forever be thankful for in my personal and professional career. I’ve worked alongside with Ashley when I was starting my business and I’ve experienced to see it all in her career as a business owner which is inspiring to see how passionate she is towards her shop and loves what she does. She will always be a mentor for me but most importantly she is also a very special person in my life. I work alongside with Regina and she is definitely someone who I trust and would want in my business forever. Regina is always looking out for me and has shown me her support. She has also pushed me into taking risks and reassures me that I can do it. My cousin Vanessa just knows how to bring my ideas to life and I appreciate so much what she has done for me in helping my business and entrepreneurship.
