We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Feldman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, what do you attribute your success to?
That’s easy. Passion! It’s the driving force that enables me to stay creative, focused, energized, determined and most importantly, excited! I know the old saying of “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life” is so cliche but it is totally spot on. My passion for branding, public relations, writing, event planning, strategy, relationship-building, philanthropy, business and marketing keeps me enthusiastic and fulfilled. I put long hours in, turn down lots of invitations to hang out, because I’m working on building an empire (and am having a ton of fun doing so in the process!) I love that my day-to-day is never the same and I’m constantly evolving as the landscape changes. I look forward to coming to work every day and I think that everyone needs to ask themselves, what lights me up? Throughout every obstacle of entrepreneurship, my passion for BrandBomb PR has kept me positive, resilient and allowed me to view challenges as moments of growth and an opportunity to learn to improve. I feel very fortunate that my work gives me such a sense of accomplishment. I am a firm believer that money is not at all the main thing you should look for when following a career path. If you are passionate about what you are doing, it’ll give you the drive to work extraordinarily hard and become the best, enabling you to become a top earner while doing so!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been a publicist for over a decade. In 2020, when the pandemic shut the world down (including the business I had been working in-house at for the past four years), I decided it was time to go full fledge with my own PR venture, BrandBomb PR. BrandBomb PR is a public relations agency that specializes in building brand awareness, maximizing reputation and creating demand through strategy, media placements and compelling storytelling. We specialize in generating press and awards for brands, businesses and entrepreneurs across high-profile broadcast, online, print, radio and podcast platforms.
I spent the first two months of the official launch building out my website on my own as I wanted to experience everything there was to starting a business from the ground up so I could better serve my future clients. In less than a year, I had nine clients, which I worked tirelessly to keep up with. I took on this workload with intent so that I could strategically save and build a reserve that would allow me to bring on a full-time employee in the future without worrying about how I would pay them if business took a slump. I took a ton of pride in my work and was having incredible wins for clients (including features on The Today Show, Forbes, US Weekly, TMZ, Fortune, countless local news segments and more!) I had hired a really skillful independent contractor to assist me with the workload but knew I really needed to bring on that full-time person to grow the business and keep up with the demand. It’s really scary going from solopreneuer to agency owner. I was nervous to be in charge of someone’s livelihood – what if I lost all my clients or made a bad hire?! Even though I had successfully worked with countless businesses on their marketing, branding and publicity over the years, it was my first time learning things like payroll, business insurance, handbooks, work forms and licenses. It was overwhelming but I love to learn and enjoyed the challenge. In February 2022, I hired my first full-time PR coordinator and thankfully, she turned out to be everything I imagined she’d be. It’s true that the first hire is the hardest hire and having her on board gave me more confidence than ever that I can grow the business. We now represent a multitude of clients in a variety of different spaces including entertainment, beauty, medical, cannabis and hospitality. As we prepare to hire another full-time PR coordinator, we continue to experience an incredible amount of growth. I would say about 80% of our new clients come to us from referrals from other publicists and clients, which is a testament to the work we do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love all of the glitz and glamour in LA. My favorite place is Melrose Ave! There are so many cute and fun boutiques there. I also love all the dining experiences the city has to offer – everything from Canter’s Deli to TAO. As a mom, I love all the fun theme parks like Universal Studios and Disney. I just love the LA culture. It’s full of creatives and fun things to do. Great city for people watching!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is my mom, Wendy, for recognizing my abilities and passion at a young age, and putting PR on my radar. I had to be about 12 or 13 years, when my mom explained to me what a publicist was and how it combined a ton of things I loved doing (writing, celebrities, events, etc.) and that she just knew it was the career for me. Moms always know best! My mom has always been my biggest cheerleader. She has always been so supportive and full of encouragement. She’s very creative herself and she’s always brainstorming random ideas she has for my clients. I still send her all of my press release announcements and she reads, provides feedback and enjoys every single one. What a blessing.
