We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Freeman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk is the only way through this life. From a young age, I knew I wanted to have a BIG life and leave a BIG impact on the world. Without the discomfort of taking risks, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Consistently taking risks on yourself is one of the greatest acts of self-love you can undertake in this lifetime. In a society riddled with fear of the unknown, fear of failure, and everything in between, taking those risks to move the world forward is what we are here to do. We are here to fully express ourselves. We’re all meant for greatness, we’re all meant to create from our highest point of creativity and ultimate potential. Risks are how we innovate, how we advance our work, how we propel the collective forward. It’s how we become deeply fulfilled in life. It’s knowing that we’ll never leave our lives with regret, never wondering about what could be or could have been.

When you take those risks on yourself, at least you know if you succeed or not, and you can release the pain of “what if?”.

My story began when I left my 9-to-5 agency job, which I was told was the only way to be “successful” or live a “fulfilled” life. Let me tell you, that was not the case. It sucked my soul; I felt like I was drowning under the pressures of work I did not care about. I was not seen. I was just another body adding to the effort of getting the work done. I left that job with less than $5,000 to my name and no prospects for work or any idea of what I’d be doing next. I was in a deep state of surrender, seeking to find myself and express myself in a way that felt like me.

So, I created my branding studio, Play & Public. This has been one of the most healing and challenging adventures I’ve ever had. It’s given me the opportunity to support myself in becoming me, allowing me to explore new avenues of creativity and support small to medium-sized businesses in growing their dreams and moving the world forward. I wanted to create more passive income, so I partnered with a therapist to build a Squarespace website template business to support therapists in building their private practices. Yet, something was still missing.

To be honest, this terrified me. How could I have spent the last five years building businesses only to still feel like something was missing? I sat with myself in that fear, grieving and feeling ashamed of creating the exact thing I left—a studio where my soul felt like it was dying. I had to look at my life, conduct an energetic audit of what I didn’t want to do anymore, what I still needed to do but with a reframe of mind, and what I wanted to create to feel fully expressed in my business.

What I wanted to create was something so far out of my comfort zone. I knew I’d have to be incredibly vulnerable and express myself in a way people might not fully understand. But I also knew if I didn’t take this risk, I would be doing myself and the world a disservice. I had been gatekeeping my magic, my love for energetics, my love for business and building, and my love for people.

Then came the scariest, most confusing time of my life, where life felt like I was spinning, and I could barely see the vision until it dropped in, and Designed to be Human was born. It offers everything I care about: Human Design and guiding people on their journey in their businesses. To get here today, I had to take the biggest risk on myself and develop a sense of trust that even if I don’t know where it’s going, I’m absolutely being guided to build the life I’ve always dreamt of. I know stepping out of the spiritual closet is the next piece of the puzzle that will move me forward on my path to feeling fully expressed and fulfilled in my life.

Do the uncomfortable thing and take that risk. You won’t regret it on the other side.
