Meet Lindsey Ruth | Photographer and Mixed Media Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Ruth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Trusting my creative instinct and looking inward for direction. Learning to be confident with my own voice instead of trying to fit in to what I think people want me to be has brought me success and allowed me to create work that feels true to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a photographer and mixed media collage artist focused on creating surreal environments out of nothing- all my photos are shot on a white seamless backdrop and I draw inspiration from whoever I shoot. My work is a result of my background in photography as I worked as a photo editor and studio photographer for years in a commercial setting, as well as studying photography in college. Pursuing a career in the arts has definitely been the most challenging, yet most rewarding move I’ve made in my life. While it can be extremely draining at times, getting to do what I love the most as my career is a dream come true. If people can take anything from my story, I want it to be that you absolutely do not need to ‘fit in’ to be successful. What’s more important is staying true to yourself, developing your creative eye without obstruction, and creating work that truly embodies your soul.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yuliya Jul (@yuliyajulphotography) was my mentor and taught me how to pour love into everything I do, Oswaldo Cepeda (@moodydarkroom) is one of my closest friends and we navigate our careers together, Jake Wangner (@jakewangner) has helped steer me through just about everything in both my career and life.
