Meet Lindy Day | Musician, Educator, Guitar Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindy Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindy, what do you attribute your success to?
It wasn’t education, it wasn’t waking up at 6am, and it wasn’t passion. The most crucial factor has been the ability to change and adapt—some call it fortitude. It’s staying calm and pushing forward in the face of challenges.
The pandemic serves as a clear example: myself and my music colleagues had to find new ways to survive. Many of us took one of two paths: we became teachers or learned how to livestream shows. While not our original passions or what we studied in college, during the pandemic, these adaptations were necessary and compelling for many of us. Navigating this industry is full of such moments.
Ultimately, our goal is to share our music with people. If teaching full-time helps achieve that, then it shows fortitude. As we emerge from the pandemic, I’m shifting focus from teaching back to my EP release. Even planning the EP’s marketing involves resistance. It’s a fulfilling process, but learning about camera angles and lighting isn’t my passion. Yet, to convey my songs effectively, I must manage these details. As I delve into marketing, filming has become a new priority I’ve never formally studied. But I’m adapting to the current circumstances. Successfully executing these promotional campaigns will expand my music’s reach. That’s fortitude.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As with most musicians, I wear many hats in this industry. I’ve been a touring lead guitarist for 7 years. I toured with The Killer Queens, the world’s only all female Queen tribute band.
I produce music for video games and TTRPG (yes, Dungeons and Dragons!). My music is in IMAX, Gears of War 5, and NHL.
I teach guitar lessons. I also mentor new artists who are entering the industry, with a focus on social media strategy and audience building.
Performing is my true passion. The pandemic caused me to take some unexpected turns, but I’m back on track, releasing my EP this summer.
The hardest thing has been the inconsistency. This industry has seasons. Some months you’re so incredibly busy there isn’t time to sleep, and other months you’re twiddling your thumbs, posting spongebob covers on instagram, and worrying that another offer may never come in again. It took me awhile to get used to that rhythm, but I trust it now. There will always be another offer, and there are seasons in this industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The themed bars in NYC are amazing. We have fantasy bars, viking bars, cat bars, gregorian bars. I love quirky little experiences like that!
The ballet or opera isn’t as expensive as you’d think, and I’d love to take my best friend to an opera! Even if you think you don’t like operas, you have to try it once with me. Then, we’d turn around and go to some tiny venue in Brooklyn with a rock band where you’ll need earplugs.
Then we’d go upstate NY to the apple orchards and go apple picking. The breweries and ciders up there are phenomenal, and are a very classic NY weekend trip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sisters! They’re not involved in the music industry, but having their unwavering support has been incredibly comforting. Navigating this industry can be challenging, but no matter where I am in my career, I can always count on them to celebrate my successes and stand by me during the tough times.
Last year, for instance, when a big project fell through, their presence was a true blessing. They understood I needed their support and wisely avoided industry talk for a while, giving me the space I needed. In an industry where every day is consumed by to-do lists and deadlines, having such grounding people is a blessing. I love my sisters.
