Meet Lisa Bellamore: Founder, Crescent Communications

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Bellamore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, how has your pespective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Maintaining a healthy work/life balance is a constant effort, since it’s impossible to control or predict the natural fluctuations of professional and personal demands. But there is one general rule of thumb that helps me to find the balance I need to be at my best: “You’ve got to nourish to flourish.” I make sure to practice self-care each and every day. It could be as simple as a quick walk in the sunshine while listening to music that energizes me, or a rigorous workout or yoga class. I just know that if I don’t feed the body and heart, I’m not feeding the mind, and without an engaged mind, I’m not operating at my best. Even when I feel completely overwhelmed, and think that I shouldn’t take a break, I know that my work will suffer if I don’t step away and disconnect at some point. For me, movement is medicine, so this is how I stay focused and motivated in all areas of my life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Crescent Communications is a strategic communications company dedicated to supporting artists and the performing arts through customized public relations campaigns that raise awareness through impactful storytelling. My company is an extension of the work I have loved doing throughout my career. Crescent Communications is named after my Dad, Crescent Bellamore. My Dad was a kind, honest, hard-working, and good man. He saw people as people, and treated everyone equally. I think I’m known for being a hard worker, for being responsive and reliable, and perhaps most of all, for being positive and relatable. I think that’s what sets me apart – the ability to relate to many different kinds of people from many different cultures and backgrounds. This is reflected in my client roster, which includes a performing arts school, one of the country’s leading choral ensembles, a YouTube star, a streaming service, a chamber group, a singer-songwriter, and a film composer collective. Being a small business owner and solopreneur means learning from the many hurdles that present themselves along the way, including this pandemic period. I think the most important lesson I’ve learned so far is to always manage expectations very carefully and clearly from the start, and when in doubt, over-service. I’d say across the board, clients prefer more communication than less, even during quieter times. I hope to share some beauty with the world by supporting artists and the performing arts with public relations and communications efforts that positively share their stories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I could, I would give a shoutout to every person who has crossed my path. From the teachers and leaders who inspired me, and the friends and family who supported me, to the people who challenged me and to those I haven’t met yet but are kind enough to share their wisdom and expertise – all have been invaluable in helping me to create a life that I love. I have to give a special shoutout to my Dad, who passed away in 2015, and for whom my company is named.
