Meet Lisa Marie | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I love quotes! There are so many fantastic ones from folks of all walks of life and discipline. Starting with “When you are not practicing, remember, someone somewhere is practicing, and when you meet them, they will win.” – Ed Macauley. I first read this as a teenager, when my siblings and I were enrolled in soccer, and my youngest brother had this framed in his room. The ethos resounds in my mannerisms toward life, and my art, fashion. I am always in my sewing room in an attempt to push myself father then any comfort allows. Not always in competition mode, as in directly, but in the spirit of ‘come to the table as prepared as possible’ and be willing to put in the work. The fashion industry for me has been very hands-on and client facing, so there is always an opportunity to learn a new skill or better understand my marketplace, people.
A saying that I use often in my conversations about community and fellow designers is “Rising tides lift all boats.” It is often overlooked success of working together to create a common goal. My career grew up in Seattle, an area not known for its fashion, and it is in working together we are able to create a scene! The average consumer is becoming more confident in independent artists due to our confidence in recommending each other and sticking together.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a small studio, I am able to create one-of-a-kind pieces for individuals looking to find ceremony in their purchase. Starting from a consultation where we get our hopes and dreams out, a sketch forms and swatches are selected. Clients and I work very intimately to discover a style that is unique to the moments in their lives, and lives on in sustainable practices. Many clients have a muslin made of their garment; a complete mock up in a simple fabric before we cut into the expensive silks. There is time and attention put into the choices selected as well as the behind the scenes process of creation.
Nothing about this career is easy, but certain personality types are better suited. I come to you today as a recovering people pleaser. I have given my entire heart, soul and more than 2 full decades to fashion. I miss my own birthday some years as it falls in the middle of bridal season. It is a passion that comes from deep inside me.
No one else can live your path for you. I am the only one who can make my heart soar with my dreams and seeing my inner beauties come to life. You must believe in your own talents and power to have an authentic voice as an artist. Stand up for your art!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Seattle is rich in natural beauty! You can enjoy the water in a multitude of ways; a favorite being the hot tub boats on lake union! Mountains and forests are all around you to visually enjoy or venture out in. Sitting atop the Columbia Tower at the Tower Club offers sweeping views of the city and Puget Sound. It is a favorite past time to sit with some bubbles (drink) and watch the ferries traverse the sound. My boutique is located in the same neighborhood I reside, Capitol Hill, and I am always running into friends and finding excellent food to indulge in! I prefer to walk then drive, so I guess that is an important distinction!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you to all my clients who have supported my art! It is because of you, I get to create in this manner. My growth is a direct reflection of each of your faiths in my talent, and our working together.
