Meet Liz Hake | Speaker, Coach, and Real Estate Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Hake and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, how do you think about risk?
Initially, I considered myself risk-adverse. But the more I think about it, the more I realize most of my success and growth is because I took a risk. I did the thing that wasn’t the norm.
I was the quintessential “good girl” growing up; getting straight As, taking college courses as a high schooler, never missing curfew, and doing a bit of theatre on the side. I decided last-minute to pursue a career in theatre and moved across the country to study. In theatre school, they teach you early that you have to “take risks” onstage to really find a character, but I didn’t realize until recently how that’s playing out in my LIFE! After college, I trusted my gut and accepted a role that took me away from the very city I’d moved to to start my career. Then again, against my peers and teacher’s advice, I accepted another gig that took me out of the country! This pattern of listening to my gut and taking the risk, even though there was zero proof that my decision would lead to success has brought me more experience, more connections, more options than I could’ve ever imagined. These big risks brought me my husband, and they introduced me to people who’ve expanded my mindset more than I could have known when high school Liz opted to take the road less traveled right out of high school.
Now I’ve built a business around showing up authentically and helping people do the same. Listening to my gut has helped me build different careers in speaking and coaching, in real estate, in fitness… the list is still growing! Being an entrepreneur is a risk all by itself, but so far it has served me well. I’m learning to become more comfortable with the idea of taking risks because I’m not willing to live small. I don’t know if I’ll ever identify with being a “risk-taker” but I am building up the trust in myself to figure it out as I go.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My current pursuits are in the world of speaking and coaching. I’ve got the training of an artist, the mind of a business woman, and the words to help pull that out of my clients. I have had the pleasure of performing on hundreds of stages all around the world, have built a network of ecstatic clients in the real estate space and have redirected this experience/expertise to transform my coaching clients’ communication skills, confidence, and professional presence. I believe your message is only as strong as your delivery, and your delivery is unique to you! My goal is to support clients to become aware of the habits that distract from the main message; to find the SPARK that will keep an audience engaged; and to pull out the personality that will lead to better stories, raving fans, and ultimately, more connection with potential business opportunities.
This road wasn’t easy, or clear! It is continuing to shape itself as I try new things and meet new people! The biggest challenges are the ones I create in my head: “do I deserve to be here?” “do they think I’m a fake?” “I’m just a theatre kid.” and I can’t confidently say I’ve overcome that! I am simply continuing to envision a life that feels EXCITING to me, and then taking the next right step to go in that direction. Action brings answers so even in the moments I feel paralyzed by imposter syndrome I’m doing my best to continue taking action.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I only care about good food and feeling great while I eat it! I am a traveller who wants to live like a local with a sprinkle of bougie… that means I’m hitting up a Barry’s class, going for a walk around West Hollywood while looking at the LA architecture and sipping a smoothie, getting dressed in a fabulous outfit (bright colors only!) and hitting up a new restaurant. Recent favorites were Etta and Hatchet Hall. On a chill day, let’s take a morning beach walk, have a late breakfast, and make time for an afternoon nap. Big nap girl over here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Goodness, how long can this list be??
I want to shout out my mom and dad who, even if they didn’t fully understand my choices, backed me up and were willing to go for the ride. My mom especially showed me that there is no shame in starting over, and really, that there is no such thing as really starting over because we bring all the expertise and experience from the last chapter to the next one. She taught me that I deserve to be here just as much as the other guy!
I want to shout out my college girlfriends who have continued to cheerlead me, rant with me, and support me in all my versions.
Lastly, I want to shout out my husband. He grew up with a very different outlook on life and has never been afraid to ask me why? Why am I waiting to do the thing? Why do I think something has to be done a specific way? Why not me? He’s the ultimate “yes, and”… that’s an improv joke for you!
