Meet LJ Jackson | Licensed Barber, Entrepreneur & Community Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with LJ Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LJ, how does your business help the community?
As a barber, my work is deeply connected to mental health and wellness for the community. A haircut is more than just a grooming service—it’s a moment of care, reflection, and restoration. The barbershop offers a sense of community and support, while the conversations that happen in the chair often become safe spaces to relieve stress, gain clarity, or work through life’s challenges. The end result isn’t just a fresh cut—it’s a boost in confidence that can shape how someone moves through their day or their week.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Becoming a licensed barber took a lot more patience and discipline than I thought it would. I put myself through barber school financially on top of working a full time job while cutting hair on the weekends. This had its challenges with more than just balancing my schedule. I had to unlearn and relearn so many core principles that aided in developing the discipline to keep going even when it got repetitive or overwhelming. The only way to overcome any of the challenges I met, was to keep going. I simply kept the finish line in mind no matter how long it took me to get there and it worked. Through it all, I graduated a month early and passed my state board exam within 7 days of graduation.
The biggest lesson I learned along the way is to remain a student. No matter how good you get at your craft, there’s always something to learn or improve on. As long as you’re reachable , you’re teachable, not only by other professionals but potentially career shifting opportunities.
I take pride in being one of the most thorough barbers in the city. From consultation to the moment you’re handed a mirror, the entire experience is tailored to you and your needs. I value my clients spending their hard earned money with me and it shows in the precision of every cut. Whether my client is 1 or 100 years old, their comfort and satisfaction is one of my top priorities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d have to hit up Somerville in Ladera or Lulu’s rooftop in Santa Monica. Marathon burgers or even Storm burger for a good burger.
As far as hanging out, you can catch me out in the community giving back with free haircuts!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My entire village has always been crucial to my success. My parents, siblings, closest friends, mentors & last but certainly not least, the love of my life have showed unwavering support throughout my entrepreneurial journey. I can’t thank them enough for showing up for me when I could barely figure out how to show up for myself.
