We had the good fortune of connecting with Lola Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lola, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I had to make was leaving Texas and moving to a different state I never been to. I chosen to move to Los Angeles, California in 2021 to start a new life. I am from a small town so moving too a bigger city with millions of people was the biggest risk I ever did in my life. It turned out to be the best decision. I been here for two years now and so many opportunities have came my way. I have a career in the mental health so I been working in a treatment center helping others who struggles with OCD and Bipolar disorders. I also been signed to Bounty LA as a model so I would say that difficult decision turned my life into a dream come true. I miss Texas but Los Angeles has become my new home.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a Mental Health Clinician is my professional job but I am also a part time model with Bounty LA. These two careers are totally different but it makes me feel balance within myself. I love both. In the mental health field I get to help people struggling with mental health illness like Bipolar disorders and OCD. Caring for each clients is very important to me because showing care and kindness makes them feel welcome. It fulfilling to see that I help someone emotionally. In modeling I gained so much confidence. Embodying that confidences has push me to love myself and my body. What sets me apart from others is a good question. I think my personality, confidence and the motivation I have sets me apart from others. I am not saying I am better than anyone but everyone is different and unique in their own way. I am proud that I accomplished so much in my life with completing college and being on the front cover of a magazine. I didn’t think I would get this far but I did. I am proud that my goals were complete and it makes me so happy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow! I mean there are so many great places in Los Angeles. I been here for two years now and I haven’t explored most of the city yet. If I was to bring my best friend for a visit I would definitely take her to both of The Getty Museums locations. I would take her to explore Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood. Going to Nobu will be the best experiences for my bestie to eat at. I been there and it was so good and delicious. When it comes to movies I would definitely take the bestie to go see a movie on the rooftop in Downtown LA. The city I would love to take my bestie to explore is Santa Monica because it’s near the ocean and The Santa Monica Pier is beautiful. Another area I would take my bestie would be Korea town because she loves Asian Food and the food there is way better than the Asian Food in Texas. Los Angeles is huge so it be hard to show her everything in a week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my success I had a lot of help and advice from people and organizations. I would give a shout out to the LGBT CENTER, Transwellness and Bounty LA. The LGBT center and Transwellness helped me find the resources to volunteer and help out in the community. I also trained and volunteered in the mental health department as well. Bounty LA gave me the opportunity to work with them and get jobs with print and commercial jobs. I did the work but the resources and advice is what helped me advance towards my success.
