We had the good fortune of connecting with LordxLam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LordxLam, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think of risk taking in the same manner people might think of energies or any similar phenomenon we can feel but can’t see. This thought process allows me to separate risk from danger. Taking on risk feels uneasy. You get butterflies, your nerves heighten, you experience anxiety. These same feelings are often present when doing something dangerous. However, by being in tune with yourself you can take more risks and avoid danger.

For example, I came to LA with $5k saved up, no job prospects, nowhere to live and no family support. Someone could argue that that was dangerous but I would say it was only risky. Although I didn’t have those other things, I had a strong partner by my side who also came with me, years of corporate job experience, and a plan on what to do if our LA experiment failed. Without those things, it may have been dangerous to come out here. But based on what I knew of myself and how I felt, there was no danger at all. Only a slight risk of failure.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a rap artist and audio engineer for over 20 years. However, my current focus is on developing my label Lord House. Lord House was established to develop the artistic career of an artist I manage, YRS Sushii, as well as myself.

When I was younger, I always wanted to be an artist but also loved the idea of being an A&R. Developing talent and watching people blossom into the absolute best version of themselves has always appealed to me. I’ve always felt my calling was to help people but I never really knew which way to take it. Until around 2 years ago when I decided to manage Sushii. All I wanted to do was provide the same support that I wish I had when I was more focused on only being an artist. Now I’m able to do that for someone I really believe in.

With Lord House, I want to reestablish artist development and what that entails. I want the focus on the artist being the best version of themselves and not views, streams or clout. When I created Lord House the mission statement was clear. “Only For Gods”. By “Gods” I mean the greatest version of yourself. Whatever you see when you close your eyes and imagine what your ultimate form is. That is the god I want to you to become. That is Lord House.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I honestly might be the wrong person for this question because I’m pretty low key. I do love going out and having a good time but it’s never at any of the usual places people enjoy around the city. If anything, I enjoy peace and quiet more than a heavy night life or party scene. Some of my favorite places in LA are like that. In addition, I find being home extremely peaceful so I’m there more often than not. People like to down talk homebodies but I’ve been like this forever.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to Shanell Mckinnie. There are about 8 billion people on this planet but there is no one else who makes me feel as loved, seen, and safe as she does. She is truly the best person I know and an amazing partner. She’s dealt with me for over a decade and seems to still enjoy my company and I’m thankful for it.
