We had the good fortune of connecting with Lotus La Loba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lotus, how do you think about risk?

There is nothing riskier than a Black womxn leaning into liberation and ease. To center my work around Black womxn loving themselves first unapologetically, shifting from exalting hard work to embodying the ease in expressing who they are, without the restraints of society’s misconception of them – is probably the riskiest thing I’ve ever done.

I began this way of living unknowingly in my childhood. I would encourage classmates to enjoy what they love, speak on behalf of peers who felt unseen, often leading to authoritative figures labeling me as ‘talkative’ & ‘combative’. I was never concerned by the mislabeling. I was always this wild child who marched to the beat of her own drum and I am grateful to have that fearless child within me, leading me on even today.

To hold space for Black womxn to eradicate the generational trauma that capitalism, racism and sexism forced them to experience is truly sacred work – no matter how risky it is perceived. To have curriculum and content that unapologetically centers Black womxn is the key to everyone’s freedom. The real risk is seeing if we as a global collective are ready to build on this truth. And you better believe my community and I are down to take the risk of building modern day hush harbors for Black womxn to remember their ancestral power.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I feel I have more of a lifestyle than a career – I love that for me. I am lucky enough to truly be in love with the community I serve. I am the creator and founder of LobaLand: an educational ecosystem that consists of a Mystery School, EFT membership, 1:1 services, wellness podcast & corporate wellness experiences led by me. I am the Creative Director & Lead Practitioner for The Haus of Soul wellness studio in Philly, Wellness Curator for HiVI & In house Energy reader for Shaktibarre. I wear many different hats very well because I have gained clarity and authority over my experience. Only showing up in spaces that see and support me no matter what has been a game changer. I share quality insights on all my platforms but here’s the foundation of it:

To hold space for Black womxn to come back to Ancestral wisdom, to freely explore all of who they are, express what they are deeply passionate about – brings so much beauty to EVERY community. What I give to my communities helps us all remember. In remembrance there is empowerment. Black bodies inherently know WHO we are, the experiences and curriculum I curate support & expand this. This surge of Black brilliance declares that we want our lives to be sweet from the inside out. We are the art and the artist.

Black folx have experienced the way society and culture have subconsciously taught us to struggle, devalue our beauty & live way smaller than we are. The communities & curriculum I build with have grown into digital & physical hush harbors, safe and brave spaces for Black womxn to thrive.

It is my prayer that more Black bodies move away from all forms of hardship, especially the struggle to success narrative. Many of us don’t realize how toxic and dangerous hustle and grind culture can be, because we witness the surface glory that comes from it. We can get wrapped up in the ability to one day share our struggle as inspiration that we don’t consider the harm it can bring to our communities. Struggle is not the only way to shift your life, especially as a Black body. So grateful to my mentor and big sis, the Nap Bishop (Tricia Hershey) for sharing this vision with me.

When we begin to recenter our lives around putting ourselves first unapologetically – we receive all the support and opportunities we could ever desire. No matter where you are in LobaLand you will find it easy to align with the guidance of the Ancestors, and Cosmic sources. You will witness the freedom in learning how to embody your purpose.

The spaces I’ve curated do not exclude anyone who isn’t a Black womxn/Body – it is a space that shamelessly centers the Black womxn experience in wellness. A space for us to be hood & holy, street & sweet, Radiant & ratchet. For many outside of the Black experience this seems wildly unfamiliar and therefore they feel unwelcomed. I invite them to sit in that discomfort and feel through it. The truth is Black bodies, specifically Black womxn, have been the most oppressed in society. We’ve been forced to carry the weight of sexism, capitalism, racism and so much more. If we begin to feel liberation from this unnecessary weight – so can everyone else. Anyone who is willing to honor this truth & help us alleviate the heaviness, are more than welcome to engage in the fun ok?!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love me some food so we have to do all the food thangs! We have to check out Aunty Tab’s new spot Kale my Name & I’m a matcha Connoisseur (check out my Matcha Mornings for creative wellness content) so I’m easily taking you to Cha Cha Matcha for their Purple CBD drink. Me and cannabis have a love thing too. So we have to support Black owned dispensaries like Josephine & Billies & Gorilla X wellness. We can get real cute and vibe out at REP Club & the Black Flea Market. At some point we need to spend time in nature. Go hiking to bask in the beauty of the views and reconnect our body to the earth. Spend some time at different beaches listening to the waves and soaking up the sun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

There are so many people to highlight! I will always dedicate my shoutouts to Black bodies. Whether I know you personally or not – Thank you for expanding me and reminding me that our Blackness is beautiful. For the women that raised and influenced me: My mama, Second mothers, Grandmothers, the flyest aunts, big sis Tricia & my sisterhood: Nayah, Yvette, Sky, Charliie, Rebekah, Petra, Priscilla, Laura, Hanah (just to name a few! there’s so many more.) and my Nieces (Parker, Sweetness, Lo) I will forever be in awe of how incredible you are. You are the best this world has to offer and I mean that. To be an extension of your beauty, resilience and never ending love is the greatest gift of all. WOLFGANG GANG GANG yall know what it really is!!! Thank you for running wild with me all these years – we only beginning!

To the men who stepped in and loved me as if I was their own (Papoo, Unkin, Uncle Luis, Uncle Steve & Cory) I will always feel your love and guidance as I flow through life. You broke barriers for me at such a young age that allowed me to intimately witness the sacred masculine in all its glory. And for that I give thanks. To Gary my best friend and partner in life – thank you for existing with all your charm and kindness and for always believing in me. Every forehead kiss, every song, every delicious meal, every random dance around our home allows me to feel safe and supported in my life’s expression. We run deep as Wolves and I am always here for this generational love!
