We had the good fortune of connecting with LOUXS VXLLA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LOUXS, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
For me taking risks has been a major part of everything I do and what has gotten me this far. It is vital for growth in my opinion. If I didn’t put myself out there at 13 freestyling or battling in my middle school cafeteria, or performed at Quinceneras only to get my set cut short and booed off stage, or record and press my own music and flood the streets with my albums and mixtapes in the Midwest, or pulling over Hawk and rapping every verse I memorized since I started rapping for an opportunity to open up for Tech N9ne and Pitbull’s Bring The Heat Tour, or driving back home in the winter from the Midwest to Los Angeles and leaving my now wife and 2 year old daughter behind temporarily for an opportunity to sign a 3 year record deal with independent record label Double M Music, or reached out to John F. Uranday when he was working on his film “Cruisin’” and I sent him 3 songs that ended up in his film, or performing at the House Of Blues on Sunset, The Roxy Theater & The Viper Room when I had no album out, or taking a chance and creating a concert partnering up with Mary Treglia Community Center in Sioux City, Ia to raise money for kids to attend their summer programs, or went and got my high school diploma and enrolled myself in The Los Angeles Recording School while driving tow trucks for money to improve my sound sonically, or working as a stagehand in hopes of building connections which lead me to an opportunity in which I was able to work with formerly known as Kanye West now YE West Donda Sunday Service, to starting my own record label VXLLA HOUSE ENTERTAINMENT. All this to say, that had I not taken any risks and went for it, I would not be where I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The one thing I’m most proud of is not giving up, even when everything seemed out of reach, I still stuck to it and held on. This journey has definitely not been an easy one. A journey I’m still on, a journey of many sacrifices and risk’s, ones I needed to make in order to reach the next step. For me, what has kept me going is my wife and my 3 kids. I like to think of myself as a family man, every move I make, I make with them in mind. I grew up with no father in my household, it was me, my little brother, my 4 sisters and my single mother who came to the U.S. from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico when she was young. Watching her struggle with all of us and constantly working double shifts to put shoes on our feet even if they were from Payless and putting food on the table taught me alot about dedication, sacrifice and hard work. On the flipside, my father walking out on us taught me alot about pain, anger, abandonment, resentment, feelings I held on to for a very long time and lead me to finding Hip Hop, which became my coping mechanism. In an after school program in Greeley, Colorado I met Obi, who introduced me to hip hop through graffiti and breakdancing. Little did I know that introduction was my calling. It is what moves my soul and helps me find relief when nothing else works. It is my therapy and that therapy has pushed me to create new pieces of art directly from the depths of myself. I realize I am not alone in this world and there are many that look like me, who have been through similar situations in life but don’t know how to move forward or feel lost, to you I say, look to the stars and keep your head high, you got you and so does God. Do what you must to get where you need to go and be unapologetically fearless.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would always have to make a day for the beach. Leo Carillo to be specific, the views and rocks, it’s beautiful. I’m sure there are more stunning places other than that but that’s my go to. For food I’d have to say Zavala Restaurante y Taqueria in South Gate. The wet burrito with salsa verde is FIRE!!! For pizza definitely Delicious Pizza, there’s no place like it. Then, I would have to say the studio, any of them as long as there is a Neve or an SSL, I just enjoy being in the studio creating. I’m not much a going out and party person. I love to grind. My apologies, I’m not boring though, hahaha!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
